Toyman01 wrote: So, does that mean I get reimbursed for the hitch I already put on it. Yeah, I didn't think so.
Take your hitch off, get the free hitch, take new hitch off, old one back on, and sell the new one?
In reply to mtn:
Probably not going to be much demand for Liberty hitches when CryCo is installing them for free.
They will probably be installing the cheap class 1s anyway.
I can't believe they sold that many! When are they gunna recall the old chevys with the saddle tanks outside the frame?
Wow, another recall for the back of the vehicle. My wife's had some rear control arms replaced in a rust recall not too long ago.
She has wanted to get a hitch for a while. Not pumped about the fire risk though.

You mean the ones that NBC had to use an Estes model rocket motor to ignite the fuel? I am pretty sure GM offered a $1000 credit towards a new truck years ago for them.
We've got one of these (2000 GC), but it's got the trailer hitch. So not a big deal.
I think I will bring it in for the magic five-speed upgrade. An extra gear in the trans with nothing more than a reflash!

I knew I liked you for a reason other than cool Miata stuffs. Now you've perked my interest and I must know details/see pictures.
You should toss in a shift kit and line pressure booster, too. Mine was pretty scooty after that.
Awesome. Free hitch for our 2004 WJ 4.7 limited! It was/is literally the only option that the original owner didn't get on the truck. Thus, completes the loaded road trip mobile. Though we have a minor lift with some bilsteins and the upcountry suspension. Wonder if they'll notice and deny the claim.
My '06 Liberty has the factory skidplates that enclose the tank, plus the receiver hitch, so no problems for me -but it will be interesting to see if they hunt me down and offer to fix it. Interesting that the last clip I saw on CNN last night was a demonstration of a GC getting rear-ended so hard it booted the GC about 50 feet and totally bashed in the rear, with no fire at all.
I'm just wondering if this will hurt our resale or not. I know a recent article said that the auctions didn't seem to show any hiccup in light of the news, but we've been thinking of selling or trading the Jeep in the next few months to a year.
If you have the upcountry package, I wouldn't worry about getting hit by thor's hammer from behind. The rear skid on that thing is freakin THICK. My '99 Limited 4.7 w/ quadradrive had the upcountry package, and I dropped the skid on the tank once to clean it out(yes, I'm that anal about car cleanliness), and almost died trying to pull it down myself. Seriously about as thick as the beefy aftermarket skids on my dad's rock cralwer TJ.
Kinda funny, I yanked the hitch off my WJ after I quit my old job since I knew I'd never tow anything with it after that.
Redhookfern:
You are also now mandated to post pictures of your WJ to appease my favor of Grand Cherokee's.
We don't have the actual upcountry package. It no longer existed in 2004 and was usually only on the Overland's. In fact, Overland buyers were given the choice to "un-option" it because some folks felt it rode a bit harsh (which, I can see). But, I found a Jeep guy out in AZ who basically sells the suspension components brand new. He found the same springs that Jeep used, and pairs them with some Bilsteins. Restored the sagging suspension on ours and gave it a bit of a lift, nothing drastic. Rides MUCH better now. We also swapped out the standard WJ limited rims and put some JK/TJ Rubicon wheels on it. Unfortunately we have yet to pick up the skids or hooks that came with the rest of the package. Really not needed for the daily driver and highway cruiser duties that this truck mainly sees.
Looks clean! I really miss mine. Made such a great daily in Denver, although by the time I moved, I only really drove it once a week or so because I could walk/ride my bike to work since I lived/worked downtown. I'd take another Limited with the 4.7 H.O. in a heartbeat.
I had a couple things done to it: Cherry bomb Pro muffler(it's PRO, dawg!), ebay intake(worthless, sounded cool though), Sonnax LB2 line pressure booster, Transgo shift kit, Royal purple trans fluid, took off the upcountry skids and hooks, took off the roof rack, debadged it and painted a lot of the trim black, painted the headlight housings black, and charcoal painted JK Sahara Wheels with 245/55/18 OE Camaro tires(they sucked). Had an SCT for it, but kept having issues with the tune. I think it was from the crappy CO gas, dieing cat, and elevation. It RAPED when I brought it back to Ohio with me and got rid of the cat. Would lauch so hard my buddy who has a 9-second TT Terminator Cobra thought I put a converter in it. Did a ton of maintenance to it, which sucked me dry; PO's definitely didn't take care of it and I should've inspected it better. Drove it all over the place out west. If you're interested, I can shoot you a link to my album.
Night I brought it home.
About a week before I moved back to Ohio.
In rfeply to NGTD:
I'm talking about the ones in the late 70 arly 80s. Tank was right below the fuel filler, on the outside of the frame. I know nothing of rocket motors

NBC staged several wrecks with these trucks to show how dangerous the fuel tanks were. When they would not explode, they mounted the rocket motors under the fender to make the fuel ignite. Voila, instant death trap.

You're not going to want to hear this, but it's the vehicle I most want to leave. It came as a package deal with my wife, so that's not all bad. But I really don't like it. It's called the Princess. She bought it new thinking it was a car, and it occupies an uneasy position in our fleet - no fun to drive, not as practical as the big truck, same fuel economy as the M5. I want to replace it with a previous generation Outback.
Still, I did take advantage of it a few times before buying a real vehicle, and we've had it (gingerly) over a couple of high passes such as Imogene.
Bone stock with the exception of Bilstein shocks, and I have an extra set of OE wheels with snows. Currently at about 70k miles.
Super-special extra gear trick: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f13/2000-wj-transmission-flash-5th-gear-947133/
I've always made fun of the "egg sac" on these. Now it's a liability!

Bill got it right. May have not been the best design but they were not death traps. Lots of them sold since the same design was sold from 73-87
In reply to Keith Tanner:
You got stuck with a Laredo, that's why! ;) my mom had an 02 Laredo with leather, my Limited was a waaaay nicer place to spend time. I'd get about 12-15 tooling around town, 22+ on the highway on longer trips if I kept it around 70mph. Mine would go over/through just about anything since it had the quadradrive system. Handled surprisingly good, too. Had mine over a few passes near Georgetown and Aspen. Went everywhere my Rubicon went when I took it to Jackson Hole, too. It's a funny feeling going over a big pass in heated leather seats, decent stereo, windows/sunroof open, on crappy tires and letting the 4wd do its thing. Surprised quite a few on the trail, and a couple older mustangs/tuner cars from stoplights.
What transfer case is in yours? My mom's was a pretty rare v8/selectrac model; boy it was fun to mash the pedal in 2wd and do Bullitt-esq burnouts. Most laredos with the v8's got the dopey quadratrac t-case. My sister has it now in Phoenix.
