I think I have to accept the fact that I'll never pay to get my car painted. There will always be some doodad that will improve performance or reliability or something other than just the car's looks, that I'd rather spend the money on.
So I was thinking maybe I should embrace the decay. Leave the patches of house paint and seared-off clear coat and make it look like a grassroots race car from dystopian sci-fi. Paint on some numbers, futuristic looking designs and add sponsor stickers from cyberpunk megacorps (and some I make up, I think a "vendor of fossil fuels and other specialty fluids for your classic" would be good haha). It'd be fun and look like I meant to make the car look that way, rather than just showing off how broke I am.
Whaddaya think?

I like it although while I can envision the overall theme I'm having trouble with specific cues. It'll be tricky to make it look like it wasn't planned, but still worth a shot.
Think I'm gonna gather up some pics of my car and put some ideas on it.
For anyone who wants to contribute, I want a pic of a dinosaur driving an S2k in "hot rod caricature" style.
Are you artistic? Steam punk it?
Not really artistic. Really not into steampunk.
I'm furiously trying to think up some futuristic designs right now. I'll get it done, don't worry.

I get the idea. I think a good place to start would be 50's futuristic sci-fi. For some reason, the pinball machine Big Bang Bar pops into my head. Fallout 3 also pops into my head, albiet with a more "hotrod" vibe if that makes any sense. I'm seeing distressed numbers, like a nascar panel that's been left in the desert for quite some time, looking beat and sunwashed and so on.
A Mr. Fusion is certainly a good idea:
Haha yep that'll be a good sticker. Doing some stuff on the hood and roof right now.
Edit: The big problem I've run into is that this car doesn't have a lot of surface area on which to put stuff that isn't glass, or divided by the plastic trim (and accompanying body crease)

What are we painting? I'm an idiot and don't know what you own lol.
Gotta sleep but here's what I got so far:
The dinosaur must be on the roof, I'm not seeing it.
Just working out a design right now, I'll create stickers and jam them in later. Probably won't stick with all orange stripes either, I'm gonna experiment with different colors.
I like the concept, and your rough idea above - but I think your car might be too clean/shiny/nice for it to really work? It seems to me like this is an idea which would work best on a car with nasty paint/bodywork, and then adding artificial patina to the graphics.

At some point, my car is going to be sponsored by Weyland- Yutani.
What do you all think about BLACK & YELLA?
Kinda matches the factory black & gold theme.
I was thinking about a Weyland-Yutani sticker too.
Paint the entire car like this:
and put "NAM-SHUB" on the license plate.

White noise in a can.
How about this for some inspiration:

FWIW, I was talking to my dad about tires this morning and said something about contact patches "the size of a big woman's thighs" (yes, I know that was paraphrased a bit)
