EDIT: Hey! This isn't my thread! Where'd the original post disappear to?

I have had a Miata timing belt in my basement for about seven years. When I finally get around to changing it, I'll buy a new one because this one is probably dry rotted.

Just this morning Mrs. BDT evicted a couple of half tread Michelins from the garden shed - when I realized that they were 8 years old, I elected not to object.

Can i join the club?

I have huge amounts of parts for the Escort, Celica, AND MX6 that are sitting in a pile in my dining room.

The TRD Japan LSD ($2800 part) for the Celica makes a nice paperweight, though.

I have a buick or olds short block sitting in my basement from the 80's.

For some reason, the S.O. does not like the idea of using it for a coffee table

Because she knows it is supposed to be used as a boat anchor!

Lets see....tail light bezels from a 62 Bonneville, trans brackets from an 86 Fiero GT, rear window struts from an Astro van, and a automatic transmission from a 91 Buick Regal GS. My wife is a saint.

I have 2.0 litre Capri parts in my shop. I must have moved them about 5 times as I havent had anything with that engine since 87. 66 8hevy P/U parts too, at least I still have the truck tho I havent touched it except to move it since 87.

Got a 5L SBC engine block in the garage on the spare engine holder. Got the carb on the shelf with the dead Red Top battery. Got NIB Hooker headers next to NIB Barry Gant carb. Got 2 15" aluminum Subaru rims with road rash. Yeah, wannabe hotrodder...

Crack-free dash for the E30 sitting atop a non-bent front valence. The ability to make the old girl somewhat presentable has taken a back seat to new pads/tires and track time. At some point I'll put the lipstick on the pig...though I should have my HR Race springs tomorrow...maybe it'll be a little longer after all.

Ugh. Why'd you have to bring this up?

Rostyle wheel covers from my old Triumph GT-6, the banged up "teardrop" wheels that were on my Mk.2 Golf for 17yrs (tires still attached as if they're anything other than garbage), and a left side front fender from a 1969 BMW 2500 sedan (E3).

SWMBO kinda digs all my Corner Worker souvenirs (big plastic fence banners, etc.) in the garage, but she's raising an eyebrow at the stuff I can't mount onto something I actually own..

I have a brake kit in the top of my tool chest for a 74 Volare my 90 yr old grandmother used to drive. Every once in a while I source a spring from it for an odd project. If you throw it out you'll need it a week later for something

I have a 4AF engine head or two, a set of stock Sammy rims I'm probably gonna sell now, a set of too-small tires that can go on those rims, a box totally full of common spares and random doodads, another box with removable bits for the Samurai, a set of worn and saggy Sammy leafs, a set of stock sammy shackles, a 4AF clutch kit, set of 4AF valve stem seals, car audio stuff I universally don't use anymore, Sammy bull bar and fogs (hopefully those will go on in the near future), and this evening I'm going to pick up a Sammy driveshaft to stop this godawful squeaking. Sounds like a rusty push-mower on the highway, ARGH!

This shows a distinct lack of imagination on your part.

Semi-related, but i have a large bucket of rusty bolts that I'd never imagine actually using on a car. But if you check back in a year I'll still have them.

This...right here ^...is what gets me into trouble every time. (I'm assuming you paid like $50 for it or something).

I find a part or vehicle that I get for a ridiculous deal. Then...I don't want to let it go because I know I'll never find that good of a deal on it again.

So...basically, it's too valuable to sell...but only because I got such a screaming deal on it.

Weird...

I've got quite a collection of parts for projects that will never happen. Just recently started to sell them off. What am I doing with the money? buying more parts of course.

Agreed, but she's actually backing off a bit since I've successfully sold some of her old textbooks on Amazon for damn near what she paid for them..

Give & take works...but just enough for her to leave the BMW E36 in the garage alone. I really gotta get serious about the Alfa before I can drag "new" stuff home.
