We welcome all sorts of topics here to off-topic, much like a good cocktail party. We have found, however, that just as alcohol and certain conversations do not mix, neither do politics and the internet. So please refrain from posting topics of a political nature.
Sorry we're not all grown-up enough to have the big ideas, but welcome to America. Which reminds me of an idea for a topic... that I won't post here.

Is it too late to add religion?
What about Fish / Human Relations?
One day, margies backyard will have no more space for new patios, or she will go on vacation, and, on that day, I will post the thousands of political threads I have been saving, and you all will cower in fear!!!!!!!

They shut er down on MG X perience . I really stink so >>>>>>>>> old people have a more decisive view . The get off my lawn deal comes up to a head with viagra and alcohol . Great deal to squash the debate over the union vs confederates .
Cool. As a newcomer to the forum one of the things I really liked was the minimal political rants compared to other sites.
You know what else is not welcome? Rusty Daewoo's from the salt belt. No one wants to deal with those things.

Oddly enough, there are plenty of rants on this fourm. They just tend to be of the more... peculiar variety.

Methinks we are now condemned to a never ending quality of life improvement as we read about dolphin rape, sammiches, Honey Boo Boo, and people's chickens.
Oh joy.

I have spent a lot of energy trying to avoid that. As much as I'd love to, I gotta save a little space in my life without my addictions!

Good. Thank you. Really.
I'm a car enthusiast. I like to talk about cars with other folks. I like this site (since it tends to feed my non-British car interest). I signed up after several of my students ran the GRM Challenge.
But a larger and larger percentage of the conversation here has begun to wear me out. I have absolutely ZERO interest in having political discussions on a car forum. If I want to do that, there are a zillion political forums on the internet; everything from Breitbart to Huffington and plenty in between.
I'm a long time moderator on a British-specific car forum (BCF) and we are Draconian about keeping off the politician nonsense (plus other stuff) on that site. No apologies for that either. Don't like it? Don't sign up.
We tend to push back hard on other "controversial" topics too (abortion, guns, environmental stuff, etc.). It's tough, especially since cars can often relate to environmental topics, outsourcing, unions, etc. We're probably not perfect, but it works, I think.
And yes, there's always the folks who think that the BCF is too "vanilla", too buttoned-down or too much like Pablum. Good. Stay away.
As I see it we have plenty of good good "cocktail party conversation" over there so it really only limits the narrowly-focused types. I see regular non-car chats about travel, food, booze, computers, history, health, pets, etc. on BCF......and I see it here too. You don't really need the political crap to maintain interest.
And we ban folks who don't follow the BCF rules. Otherwise, one jackass tends to spoil things and drive away hundreds of normal folks.
We have an eclectic mix of mods; the owner is a retired military Rightie, I'm an east coast college prof Leftie, we have a cop and minister and so forth.
We are all in agreement that stuff like political bickering adds NOTHING to our desire to chat about (British) cars and tends to drive away more folks than it attracts. Plus those hyper-political types seem to be the most high-maintenance (and in my opinion, least interesting).
Anyway, yeah, thanks.
I go back far enough to remember when there were a couple of jackwads that would start 'argument' threads in the main forum. That was the reason for this Off Topic section being created in the first place. (Actually, I believe it was the 'SUV' thread that was the final straw).
If I don't want to view Off Topic subjects, I go to the main forum or Sprockets. Sorta like changing radio or TV stations.

Don't you know that you aren't allowed to use logic and common sense in an internet argument?

That is what Hitler would say.
