It really is! Or the governing process in general, which branch and level is responsible for what etc.
We should teach something like that to our students. Maybe make it a class. Give it an important sounding name. Nah, let's name it after a car. You know one the kids are into. That way it will grab their attention.
Hey kids like Honda's, right? What is the name of the new one that lapped the Ring so fast that is coming here soon?
Well I did it. I was an election officer for my local ward for the Presidential primary. 15 hours.
Wow. The local high school gave us pages from the AP Government course. Nice to the young people coming online.
really cool
In Louisiana, they used to poison the Republican election officers. Can't be watching things to make sure there's no fraud if you're in the john puking your guts out.
Anyway, hope things turn out OK for all of us this time around.

I do not feel that well this morning.....I was a liberal in a liberal district, but I was supporting the actual liberal and not the war hawk.
now I know why they brought us free water...
I did get to be the crier and close the polls.
Went outside at 15 till and at close to announce the poll status.
Our pole workers get $20 for the day (12+ hours) and they have to pack their own lunch. Or is it poll?

Wait no free "lunch with a view"?
In reply to Fueled by Caffeine:
Average age of the election officer in Virginia is 73. So if you want that view...
I live in a very affluent area of Virginia. We make $120 for 15 hours of work. They brought us bagels but we had to pack our own lunch.
So apparently there was a problem with the tabulation and now we have to go in and see where we made a mistake, reconcile the report, and resign it for certification....
geeze people wanting an accurate count.

In Pennsylvania, the people who work the voting stations are usually older people and they get paid a flat rate ($150-$200 for whole day from what i've gathered) for the whole day.
I did this once in high school, I think for maybe the 04 or 06 election (probably 06, don't think it was a presidential race), when my history teacher was recruiting volunteers. Forget what I was paid, but that's about the right ballpark. And yes, everyone else working there was at least 4-5 times my age.
Kind of a cool experience, definitely opens your eyes up to the numerous, thankless logistical tasks required to hold an election.

Anybody named Peter Florrick involved with the vote count?

I believe it's 'poll'.
'Pole workers' can make a fair bit more than $20 a day from what I understand, although I hear a coke habit isn't cheap to support either.
God I hope our poll workers aren't also pole workers.

might get a better turn out if they were, definitely a different demographic. :)
GGA for President or at least Chief of Staff.
