That was my excuse to, she had to wait a while till I had my money in order.
I've never met a woman who wouldn't be satisfied with a Cracker Jack ring as a down payment and evidence of comittment until times got a little better.
When's the interview? Did it happen yet?

In the morning. 9:30 AM!
Time for some last minute cramming before an early night's sleep, and a healthy breakfast.
The suspense is killing me! It's after 1 - hopefully you're enjoying a nice interview lunch right about now...
Interview was about 3 hours. Drive home was about 9...
It went well, there is a second phone interview set up for next week. I think I "wowed" them...
Congrats.
How many interviews they gonna have? Is the job actually a continuing series of unrelenting interviews??

x2! WTF? I mean..I know you seriously want this job (and that you personally have no problem with what they're doing), but holy cow! You traveled out there on your own dime (including a clutch change, IIRC), didn't you?

800 mile drive, 3 hour interview followed by a "we'll have to do another phone interview"?
Really?
I hope you really want this job and I hope it's a really good fit for you because there's a lot of screwing around going on.

I just went on an interview the other day after a phone interview, and towards the end was joking with the hiring manager that I should hire an agent to set up all these interviews.
He claims that thanks to Internet job sites, it's easy to apply for anything in like 30 seconds, so they put up a bunch of walls to weed out the folks they don't want.
It also kinda surprised me that they had a timeline from when I responded to the call setting up an interview to the time I was on their site filling out their supplemental application for the resume...he was impressed that it was less than 2 minutes after I had gotten off the phone.
I guess they check everything now.

I would . Higher Dork status shows a lot of commitment to...something!
Man, 3 hours is a bloody long interview, especially to be followed by another phone interview. Then, I guess if you're to be fielding a new division of their company, they want to be pretty certain.
Methinks "another phone interview" could equate to working out the details of the job offer.
Otherwise yeah, this is a bit over the top. I've only ever had one out of town interview for a job and we're not talking some high end corportate gig, as I recall it was to be the local repair guy for scantron systems (those stupid little bubble test readers) and they flew me out for the interview and put me up in a hotel overnight all on their dime.

I'd guess that you're right. There is probably nothing they couldn't figure out in a 3 hour interview, and since he is 9 hours away, they aren't going to ask him to drive back for a second in person interview to finish the details that he doesn't need to be in person for.
Not related, but it brought back memories of something I had completely forgotten.
When I was 18, I had an interview for a job that was exactly what I wanted. I was experienced, and the first interview with HR went well. I expected the second one would be more detail, and the job offer (hopefully), but kept getting pushed up the ladder from manager to the owners, and when asked details, like compensation, they said, we don't handle that, HR does. I really wanted it, and didn't want to seem pushy, so I let it slide. After the 4 interviews, I was pretty sure any place that looked so pro, and took hiring so seriously would compensate me more than adequately. I got the call Friday afternoon while I was out. Start Monday. I show up at the site, do my thing for a while, , and ask about compensation. We don't handle that, head office does, I was told. I finally got the word the next day. They were paying me a little less than half what I had expected. I left the site, went to head office, and had a little chat with those 4 interviewees about wasting my time.
Good luck on the callback!
I'm waiting for my possible new employer to "confirm" my drug test/physical results today. Not sure why it was so important that I drive back across town with the paperwork late yesterday afternoon, with the results, if they still have to "confirm" them today.
Who would have thought you'd be given a physical for a desk job?
^^^^
Said earlier that the hotel was in Akron, OH.
I am also watching with high hopes and wish you the best.
Having three or 4 interviews, as candidates are wittled dwon, and different people (higher ups) want to talk to the candidates is no longer odd, at all. Especially the higher the postion in the company.
And phone interviews are REALLY wierd. All those little body english clues and facial expresions you normally pick up on are gone. Every infelection on every word becomes very important.
Hope you get it. At the very least, you made it into round two or higher. And in today's employment market, that's not to be lightly dismissed.
You'll need to log in to post.
