Going to Prague for the weekend. Anyone been there before? Good sites to see or things to do?
I know nothing other than it didn't really get flattened during any wars, so there are chunks of it that are old and cool.
I think.
That is one place I want to go to in the future. My family came from that area originally (couple generations back), it would be cool to go and see it for myself. Have a great time. And if you meet anyone with the same last name as me, Pajer, tell em their relative in America says Hi.
When are you going? Our live in nanny is from the Czech Republic and lives in a suburb of Prague. I can ask her. What type of stuff are you interested in? History, entertainment, etc...?
Head out tomorrow morning, come back Monday afternoon. I don't know what all I want to see. Good beer will be important, but probably not tough to find. Probably some history and maybe some good dancing in the evening.
I have a good friend who spent lots of time there in the 70's and 80's.... Unfortunately he's not at liberty to disclose the full details of his time there as he was employeed by a 3 letter agency that starts with the letter C.
He said the place was gorgeous though.
Where are you staying? You can always go to the castle, but even just walking around the city is amazing. They have a brewpub tour also.
If you're going out, I'd suggest going to Cross Club at least once, just to check out how manic all of the decorations/live art are if nothing else.

Is the nanny hot?
All I know is I hear Prague is one of the few standing old world cities that weren't bombed to E36 M3 during ww2. Have fun, I am living vicariously through you Salanis!

Drink lots of the beer, obviously. And just look around. Everything is interesting. I could just walk the streets there for hours staring at stuff.
And find a friend to help you lift up the rear of a Trabant and put it sideways in its parking place. That is fun.
Back. Gorgeous city. The best part was just wandering around and checking out the sites, especially the Cathedral. The Astronomical Clock was a bit underwhelming from what I had been expecting. The city is absurdly touristy.
I was surprised to be very disappointed with their beers. Waaaay too much diacetyl (an aroma compound normally considered a flaw in beers... think buttered popcorn jelly-belly) in most of their beers. Apparently they like it that way. Surprisingly, I had one of the best IPA's of my life there. Not high alcohol or bitterness, but full of wonderful hop aroma. Just the very best part of an IPA.
All I know about Prague - There is a restaurant somewhere that has a beer tap (and flowmeter) at each table. The table that drinks the most liters wins. My work is finding a reason to send me there, apparently I can drink a lot...

That's a chain. There is one in Berlin too.

Pix or ban!
Ah, you're back already. I was going to say to keep driving past Prague and go to the Sedlec Ossuary.
Well, I've always wanted to go there, anyhow.
Well, besides the obvious stuff, there's a cool bar which is also a Museum of Communism. Also, go to Plzen if you can swing it.
You'll need to log in to post.
