I sat in my boss's office three weeks ago and couldn't believe the words coming out of my mouth. I thought to myself "am I for real doing this? This job is on THE PATH, I am making progress, it's a secure position..." and the other half of me reminded my amygdala "it's okay, P3PPY, you've done the math, it's the right decision- and you wouldn't want to stay here anyway."
My wife's side biz picked up and she now makes more in one day than I do in almost the entire week. So she is going to work the equivalent of a little over a day, I'm going to help with paperwork, billing, and mostly the two of us will have time together to kiss the babies.
A little bit ago I turned in my badge, collected all the gifts and well-wishes, and drove home from there for the last time.
Bittersweet.
I am (was) good at my job. I was handed things I'd never done before and I excelled. I had valuable input and insights and a wider sense of relevance and importance. That's something I'm going to have to mull over and the loss of which (if even in my own mind) I'm going to have to mourn.
We are going to set a schedule for keeping up with things, including one full day a week for various projects of mine. There's a lot to look forward to, too!
The scary stuff is the exciting stuff!
Here's to all the best wishes!
Congratulations sir!
Hopefully I can pull mine soon.

Congratulations man.
Make sure you build thread your new life too.
Hell yeah man!! I hope what little advice I was able to give you about your wife's options was infinitesimally helpful in reaching this result.
Yeah, I did appreciate hearing about overcoming the difficulties or just perspectives on how it can work. Thank you all for your insight in the other thread about being stay at home.
She is a pastor and counselor (we met while she was simultaneously earning honors in her two concurrent masters degrees- if that explains her at all), so she does teambuilding workshops and exercises for churches in particular (or really an org, but the internal team vulnerability required is somewhat unique to non-profits), seminars and camps for church groups, pulpit supply, and then on the counseling side she obviously does counseling hours but then workshops, training, and coaching for parents and child care workers, especially with people dealing with high anxiety or children with high anxiety. She's also done some passive income projects like workbooks for the same. There's a lot of need out there and I'm happy that it can work out for both parties so well. She does a great job.
When I knew I could not stay at my job anymore I asked her to pick up some hours. I basically had a second full-time job of looking for other jobs. Then one night she suggested that she could replace my income and so over the next couple months we ramped hers up through her own marketing, through an agency for local clients, and through a nationwide referral source. We wanted to ramp it up fast since she's primary caregiver so she couldn't have TOO many work hours committed before I was able to bw home with them.
When she got some momentum it just took off and that has been helpful for us over the past few weeks while I have still been full-time that she has been replacing my income and then some, so we now have $$ set aside.
Sort of on-topic: I hired an 18 year old a couple of months ago. He's pretty good, but he's 18, so, I feel the need to guide him a bit.
He said that he wouldn't want to have a wife/girlfriend that made more money than him. I asked him if he was a dinosaur, or just stupid, and he seemed confused.
Congrats on having the opportunity to help your wife on to hers and your families success. No everyone gets that chance.
I want my wife to take over our company and I retire. Kids are all but out the door. I have project cars and home reno plans that would take center stage. But instead I get up every day and run a business.
Being a well kept husband looks dam good to me.
Congrats. From all I've read from ya, 100% sure ya did the right thing.
And hey, you're good at the job you are leaving. Will be easy to find something, if stay at home dad is not a great fit... I hope it is, though!!!

That poor guys future wife, married to an insecure guy.
My wife and I have a friendly competition over that. She managed to make more than me in one year, claimed she "won," then went part time and makes less than me. I claim that's not how it works but you try convincing a wife of that.
