Raising Cash for Toys

Over the last year I've seen lots of interesting projects come and go - also I've seen lots of folks run into job issues or run a bit tight on cash. Just curious, what would you/could you do to raise an extra $1000 per month? I mention per month - meaning what could you do consistently to raise cash. Could you scale it up?

Part out cars in the driveway. I did that in my mid-teens with old Honda Accords when there was a very active forum looking for good parts. I scaled that back due to a lack of demand for crusty OEM parts for 20 year old Hondas. Now, the kids want shiny new upgrade parts instead.

or find a few choice parts that are desired by the forum guys on one model or make specific forum, scour CL looking for deals on those parts for cheap and buy/sell for profit. in the last two weeks my buddy has picked up a 17inch spare wheel with the TPMS sensor and a brand new bridgestone dueler H/T tire on it for $50, and a full set of oem 16" tacoma TRD Off Road wheels for $150. the tpms sensor alone is worth about 80 bucks on the forums, the tire 100-150, and he's keeping the rim. the oem set of wheels could probably be parted out for 100ish per wheel, or sell the set for 4-500. these kind of deals are fairly common from what i've seen.

It seems around here pimping your daughter for drug money is popular.

I was going to say sell weed, but I so dispise it, it's not funny.

If I needed to raise an extra $1000 each month, I would allow attractive women to have their way with me sexually, for several hours at a time. Additionally, I would consider offering group discounts for sorority events, bachelorette parties and the like.

But that's just me...

I've been looking at several things to do to raise the cash.

1- I have a website. I have the ads turned off because they annoy me, but they can generate cash, if I have traffic. And I do.

2- paint things. I'm pretty damn good with a hobby brush, and there is a niche market in my area to get things like badges painted custom colors. I've found that with minimal investment, (and some time getting high on paint fumes while the wife hides in the other room) I can make a few bucks cranking out custom painted badges on an as needed basis.

3- renting stuff. Because I have tool ADD, I have some stuff I probably don't need. I don't have 1 single decent set of sockets, but I have a 1/2" breaker bar to use them with. I also own a fender roller, that I will never actually use on my own car ( I already rolled them last year). These tools are in demand on a fairly regular basis, so a few bucks in my favor usually grants me them the use of my tools. I also have a pair of beater cars I have no real use for 90% of the time. Granted I have to trust the driver, but if you need a car for a few days/weeks to get that engine rebuild done on your DD, why buy a car when you can rent from me? Same actually went for my spare winter tires this year. Renting those out to a guy who bought his ms3 and promptly got it stuck in the snow has made winter beater #1 FREE. So, i've managed to pay off a car I will continue to rent out, for the forseeable future. Or until I get bored and crash it.

I have a buddy in St. Louis that actually makes his living buying and parting out junk cars. There's LOTS of money to be made if you concentrate on cars you're familiar with.

I made a "gathering interest" thread for old used parts off the Escort that i will have no need for once the work is done. I have almost as much spoken for as i initially paid for the entire car.

The right cars can generate a LOT of money. To make $1000 a month will take a lot of work, but i'd do it if i had the time/space.

I'm averaging about 1/2-that amount fixing computers, and that's in a small(pop-1300) town & only by word of mouth. Business is also growing.

I try and work an extra shift at least every paycheck just to throw into savings....

This months though went to Vet bills for Mr. Geeb.

No doubt there's good money to be made in parting out vehicles, detailing cars, side jobs, ebay, CL etc... but the key word in the original post is 'consistently'. For something steady w/ less clutter in the yard, no waiting for turnaround, no shipping and no hassle a good part time job may be in order.
