I've been here for some years and one thing that keeps me around isn't the cool automotive builds and knowledge. It's the forum members here.
There's many threads where someone needs help, advice, or just need to vent. The members here provide so much support and advice without being E36 M3ty to each other and without judgement. Yes there's disagreements and people who don't get along well or are just down right annoying. But, even the way that's handled is beyond expectations for a automotive forum. I've seen, "I know we don't always agree but I'm here for you" and similar post. How members here are willing to go out their way to help others is incredible.
Almost every other automotive forum I'm a part of has a decent amount of toxic behavior. From treating people like they're stupid for a simple question, macho man dick measuring, toxic masculinity, to just running new members off for no reason other than their own amusement.
Here you folks are different. Though mostly strangers, I feel like I trust you guys more than I would typical strangers I know through a forum. It feels like an online family.
Honestly, if people in general treated each other the way we do here then this world would be a lot better.
I appreciate yall. Thanks!

I think you dont
if so, that could explain why everyone keeps telling me to "calm down" and "chill out" ?
I keep "ranting and raving" and people tell me to turn down that racket and stop chewing on glowsticks...I might be doing it wrong

Cause a lot of us have expectations that we will meet in person at the Challenge some day and we don't want to be face-face with people we have pissed off!

We’re all WAY weirder when you meet us in person. Well, except Seth.
Agreed! This is the only forum I frequent. After several years on the forum I finally got around to actually meeting a fellow member and it really is a forum made up of great people.

This is how bad this forum is: I just looked to see were yupidit is located to see if I could snag it with the trailer and take it to Gainesville. Damn enablers you people are!

“Use the search function bro this topic has been covered 100 times.”
^every other forum.
I just want to add that I'm super psyched when I look at the Challenge entry list and cross reference that back to builds and screen names. I get to meet more people! So rad.

In fairness, and speaking as a former administrator on a couple of other large forums, the rate of new member appearances at this forum is pretty placid. When you have between 10-20 new people a week show up, most asking the same basic questions, it's almost impossible to not develop that attitude.
In reply to Duke :
I think it also has do to with the variety of subjects we cover here. Marquee specific, or model specific especially, sites tend to attract people who are already frustrated with some issue they're having or looking piece of knowledge which they're using different terminology to discuss. The unfamiliarity with the subject causes them to post then everyone gets pissy about the same question being posed 10 different ways.
I do appreciate the environment here compared to anywhere else on the internet. It's pretty amazing how diverse this community actually is.
I really got pulled in when I became active on the GRM forum. The attitude of the membership was quite obvious from the start. I'm really comfortable here.
It changed my life to some degree; I bought a miata, and then another one, and started autocross (at age 62). Now I have a bunch of new friends, and a hobby that I've dreamed about since I was a kid.
I agree completely. As evidence, I have a used i3 wheel somewhere in PA, picked up by someone I’ve never met and being brought to Gainesville by someone else I’ve never met. How cool is that!
As for the Challenge, how about name tags that reference the person’s screen name?
