Chuck D said: You singers are spineless, as you sing your senseless songs to the mindless, Your general subject, love, is minimal - it's sex for profit. Scream that I sample, for example, Tom, you ran to the federal court in U.S. it don't mean you. Yeah, 'cause they fronted on you.

Mmmm...accurate social commentary.

I'm sure there is a metric ton of effort and money and talent put into a lot of it. I just do not like the vast majority of the end result of that investment. I find most of it tasteless and tedious to listen to.

I mean, this clearly took all of the above, and but that doesn't mean I want to look at the damn thing:

One exception would be De La Soul, who are actually engaging and entertaining to listen to.

And they're engaging and entertaining to listen too because 1: Prince Paul is a berkeleying genius producer, and 2: They're talented dudes who are good at what they do and also have a sense of humor...like all the other stuff I posted on the last page. Listen to the first Pharcyde album, tell me you don't like it, and I'll STFU.

Kid,

There are two things that make me glad that I was born when I was - the cars and the music.

People around the world must wonder what ever happened to black American music. With R&B, Mo'town, soul, etc it used to be so good.

As I already said. Rap sucks.

There's an old group from New York City comprising three Caucasion boys, incidentally, all of the Jewish faith, which used to put together some enjoyable music. I believe they've been around since the mid-1980s...

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Just because we don't like something doesn't mean it has no value TR8. You know what they say about opinions and shiny happy people?

I'm with you in that I do not like or even appreciate that style of music, but that doesn't mean that there is not some merit in it. It only means I do not like it.

I like the early stuff best - the clash - magnificent seven, blondie - rapture. I used to work for a company that made mixing consoles - sold the beastie boys one in 1990.

wow, the fact that it has to be "black music", makes me sad for you, that you think the way you do, but all the more glad that this "kids" generation is poised to inherit whats left of this rock. I had a lot more to say, but I edited for your screen, and to run in the time allotted. Peace and chicken grease, Adult, dont let the door hit ya on the way out.

I watched a documentary on TV a week or two ago about the Funk Brothers, who were the studio musicians at Motown until the record label moved to L.A. in the early 1970s. You want to talk about talent, it doesn't get any better than those guys. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standing_in_the_Shadows_of_Motown_(film)

I don't know if anyone else will have the same experience, but you "I don't like it" guys, take a minute and listen to this. Doom is kinda unique in that he writes from an old guys perspective. That, and he has some really smart, occasionally brilliant turns of phrase. This was the first Hip Hop song I liked that wasn't the Beastie Boys.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rpaonSDPw7Y

First line: "Livin' off borrowed time, the clock tick faster..."

The other one I really like:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rS1cggllfig

"It never really mattered too much me Cause I was just too damn old to m.c"

Just curious if anyone else like me would say "oh, I didn't expect that!"

Doom is one of my all time favorites!

Celica- I dunno, with Linkin, still their old stuff sounds the best, there are a few new songs I like but..I dunno

And all this other stuff that's being said, yeah i'll hold back because I don't wanna get started, I tend to really voice out and not care how people react to what I said, so yeah i'm just not gonna say anything, BRING ON MORE ARTISTS AND VIDEOS!!

I heard that, and while it's CLEARLY a riff on rap for the lulz, lyrics notwithstanding, his lyrical style, delivery, and beat composure... I actually REALLY like that Reggie Watts song.

Reanimation was the remix cd of Hybrid Theory, they brought in a bunch of rappers like Pharrell Williams, Motion Man, Pharaohe Monche, etc etc etc.

Lots of "underground" artists on there. It's good stuff.
