You guys are doing a great job here.
I'll include a few.
Mazzy Star- Fade Into You Well known, but not mentioned yet.
My Bloody Valentine- Only Shallow One of those bands that went on to implode but influence a bunch of other people
Now, since you sounded young at that time and weren't able to go out drinking, dancing and other things, here are some things you'd hear at clubs but probably not on the radio:
Apotheosis - O Fortuna - If you went anywhere to dance in the early 90s, you heard this.
LA Style - James Brown Is Dead - ditto this
Front242 - Headhunter Am I in the right decade? It's fuzzy
Lords of Acid - NSFW, not safe for kids - I Sit On Acid another club staple
Sneaker Pimps - Spin Spin Sugar more club staples
Prodigy was on the radio. Not sure if I saw them in the thread yet, but also at the clubs- Firestarter
And I won't link the Genitorturers, but go ahead and look them up.
In reply to Brett_Murphy :
oh man, Sneaker Pimps! i kinda forgot about them.
also, unsure of date, but Stone Roses:
You linked one of the worst Stone Roses songs, but good on you for including them.
This came a bit later in the 90s, but you may enjoy this lady-fronted rock group:
Sleater Kinney - Dig Me Out

Front 242 was 80s. Great song though. :)
I saw Lords of Acid at a club in Palo Alto in the late 90s. They were... loud.

I posit that Tyler is the better Toadies song off Rubberneck. Even though the lyrics are creepy as hell.

I always think of Concrete Blonde, too, whenever I hear Liz Phair. A friend of mine in college gave me a copy of her tape - one side was Concrete Blonde and the other Liz Phair. Wore that tape out, both great albums.

Boy, I hate that song. Since CTDunmmies were Canadian, that song got a ton of air play on the Canadian Station that my '90's music came from. You see, Canadian stations are required to play a certain percentage of Canadian artists so they were usually starved for anything Canadian.
Its how I feel about nirvana. Kurt cobain's legacy has been beaten to death for so long that even if I was still into them, all I can do is change the channel when lithium comes on.

Very much in the 80's, but:
Repo Man soundtrack! Particularly Burning Sensations "Pablo Picasso"-- still one of my most favorite songs of all time!
That was a (very awesome) cover of a Modern Lovers song from 1974
And yeah I am a fan of it
Laid- James
(Man now I see codrus had it on the 2nd page)
I have shows from most of the mentioned on DAT. I may have to throw FLAC files onto a 2TB external to bring down to the challenge. Bring thumb drives or an external HD if you're interested.

Three pages and nobody mentions Faith no More?
Mike Patton is disappointed in all of you.
I graduated HS in 92 which was a brilliant year for music. Pearl Jam came out with their album "Ten," Nirvana had "smells like teen spirit," and everyone had a CD of Shaggy and Shabba Ranks. A few of us *cough cough* had Snow's "12 inches of snow"
Nine inch nails Closer. Technically I think that was 1989, but NIN really fit in with 90s stuff. (video is NSFW - nips and cursin')
Marilyn Manson.
Knapsack
Pushmonkey
Tripping Daisy
White Town
Fastball
Actually.... better yet, I found this kick-butt playlist on Youtube. Scroll through it. Not all is alternative, but much of it is.

Thanks for that! I've heard that song for 30 years, and I never knew it was a cover. LOL.

You guys wanna go deep in the 90s? Do you like bad recordings transferred from old cassette tapes? Boy do I have a treat for you!
Bad 90s Warren* High School Garage Bands
Joe Bakes 9 - Why Not Me?
Joe Bakes 9 - Gotta Figure Out
Pusher - Dadadada
*Christian metal band ZAO came out of here around the same time, but if memory is correct, once they got signed to Tooth and Nail pretty bunch all the original members were replaced.
Oh, ZAO was awesome, I saw them play with Focused, The crucified, Stavesacre and Six Feet Deep at a hall in Rock Island. Wow

Cracker was probably mentioned a few times, but “the golden age” is a great album start to finish.
And not sure how faith no more got missed. Epic was a vacation song as a kid. Still love em.
And megadeth!
Yeah, this thread had me humming and singing songs from my 20s.
I'll say it again: My Bloody Valentine is great (for me at least) to listen to in the garage while I'm working on stuff.
So is the Knife, but they're a 1999 band, so they won't get included with a link.
