I've never rented one.  I've had an RV for decades, but it stays parked at the lake.  Not really roadworthy anymore without some work.

One of my cross-country jaunts I wanted an RV so I bought a nice, used, 26' Class C for $8000.  I used it for the trip and then sold it for $8500 a few months later.  Not as swanky as renting a brand new one, but it fit the bill.

Haven't any of you watched that RV movie? It didn't end well. This would be me.

Do note that 1) this is a 2 year old thread, and 2) the rental was successful.  Which lead to us buying a vintage camper to renovate.   Which we've been camping in since late June '21.

Renting was a solid way to make sure we would enjoy the hobby.

A canoe brought this thread up.

Cruise America’s gross negligence left my family stranded in a parking lot for several days. No waste or water hookups, waste tank full, during a heat advisory- my family of 5 and 2 dogs were forced to walk for clean bottled water. Cruise America’s protocol is to force the consumer into options that won’t cost future revenue. You can either cancel your contract and be stranded without recourse, aka get yourself home from wherever their unsafe vehicle left you- or you can wait indefinitely for reps that won’t provide last names or supervisors information to find a replacement vehicle. Rentable vehicles available- we called other surrounding cruise America locations ourselves when we felt we were being lied to. Those locations were willing to rent to us- until they heard replacement vehicle. That’s not protocol. Cruise America reps tried to force our family to extend our trip and remap our plans- due to time lost that wouldn’t be refunded. No option for a full refund until I called the police and refused to leave the broken vehicle- costing cruise America $150/hr in tow fees. Supervisor was available for the tow truck driver- but not for the 3 days I asked to speak to him. I was able to get his information through the tow truck driver- turned out the man avoiding me was the national operations manager - Jean Francois Les Cerbeau. He told me people have died in their vehicles, they’re busy, and protocols allow situations like my family’s to “slip through the cracks”. Unsafe consumer trap, with zero accountability. Reps helping hide supervisors by refusing to cooperate and hand you off to a higher up. Trained to just repeat your “options” over and over. Don’t trust this company with your hard earned money or family’s safety
