iPads are kinda toys though...get a tablet with an OS that you can run any code of your choosing on.
So a Surface Pro, or would you count rooted Android tablets and jailbroken iPads?
As to the original question, not for me. My wife would have been in the same camp a few weeks ago. She's now done with her graduate program, and her computing needs will be mostly met with her new iPad mini. If she gets a keyboard for it, I think it would meet about 95% for her.

After a few days with the Asus transformer, I can say that we 'like' it. For performing basic tasks (E-mail, internet, recipes, Skype) it is GREAT, and we love the Windows 8.1 interface. For some of it (getting anything updated, configured or customized) it's a pain in the butt. I suppose I hope to be doing a lot more of the former than the latter, but for the first few days it was annoying. Also, I wish the screen tilted further back when in laptop mode. I type stuff standing at a counter a lot.

Loving it. Loving the super long battery cost, the low buy-in ($330 through Amazon Warehouse), and even loving the touchscreen. Not too bad so far!
I'm really glad yall like it. They keyboard isn't great, but not any worse than any other machine of that size.
I used mine quite a bit while @ my sister's house for vacation last week. It is very convenient to pack around.

The problem in my view is that tablets are only updated in the cell phone life span of MAYBE 2 years. Its not like a laptop where you can get updates for ten years and update the OS as needed. Then what happens in two years when your office app isn't produced for your now obsolete OS? I know jail breaking is a possibility, but I have never wanted to risk bricking a couple hundred dollar tablet or phone.

That's what is nice about Windows 8 tablets that run on x86 based processors - it's just a PC, you can install a new OS if you wish.

I replaced my one year old MSI GT70 with a Surface Pro and I haven't looked back, I love the Surface, I use it for work and everything else.

This weekend I updated the OS on my iPad 2 and iPad mini to the latest 7.1
The iPad 2 is pretty old, we have had it for a few years and we bought it used. I am pretty sure that the original iPad can run that and it going on 6 years old.
My pos windows bases laptops slow to a crawl after 6 months even when spending $60 a year on security software and running them regularly.

Your security software may be your problem, many of the larger security software suites are horrible programs. You should just use Microsoft Security Essentials, it's free and it works.
