I am 49 years old and love to listen to loud engines rev, take off or just sound awesome. My wife shakes her head in shame as I roll down my window to hear a cool car go by. Will I ever outgrow this? Never, but I did just confess my automotive lust to a group of addicts.

As long as you aren`t one of those people in the pits that randomly fires up their car every half hour, revs the E36 M3 out of it, then shut it off...

I play my own car reving sometimes because I can't drive it... that all changes saturday as will the sound.
I like the whistle of a good turbo....

there is nothing better in all of this silly hobby than rolling down the windows and revving the piss out of a well built American V8 engine while going thru a tunnel.. the noise my Nova made at 7200 rpm going thru the I94 tunnel in Minneapolis would be best described as pure sex..

I had a cd a few years ago that was all engine sounds. Some were them going around tracks while others were various reving and the like.
I'm 42 and rolled down my window ~3 days ago to listen to a 997 911 take off from a stop light next to me. I also am a sucker for tunnels and parking garages. My e39 M5 with Dinan exhaust sounded intoxicating. For that matter, my 1987 Mustang LX 5.0 with Flowmasters sounded incredible! Love the exhausts!
It is hard for me to drive through the harbor tunnel in baltimore @ less than 5k
Not me or myne nor do i suggest it but still sounds good!
Loud slow car
Sometimes being just off idle in an American V8 can be just as fun as roaring through a tunnel. Like say inside a large parking garage at the mall where the low rumble sets off many car alarms.
My wife rolls her eyes when I roll the windows down to hear a sweet idle. I'll never grow out of it.
I'm a fan of a lopey-lope cam myself.
I think idling along, sounding like that, it much cooler than revving, which makes you look like a dick.
I've got a Thumpr cam planned for the Camaro.

I have no problem rolling the windows down when I'm driving my Civic. It wasn't built-up the way it is to be seen and not heard.
And, it does sound good, not at all like a typical fart-canned Honduh.

I love, love, love the sound of ANY engine that has an aggressive cam in it. Hearing an engine nearly struggling to stay running at 1000 rpm makes my pants tight.
You have to let this play for maybe 15 seconds, then hopefully this will delight and will be accepted here;

I loved the engine sound of my VFR, even with the stock pipes.
Too bad the motocross music box got nixed...

I always roll down the window when there is a sweet car nearby at a stoplight. Wife thinks I'm weird.
I still do it on the bike. When going under bridges, through tunnels. Love the sound at 12K
The ol' XS sounds GREAT in a tunnel. The Jensen's exhaust is not snorty for whatever reason, even the race motors don't have a memorable exhaust sound but when the Dellortos make that 'bullfrog' noise... let's just say it would get better gas mileage if it didn't make that sound.
I once told my wife to be quiet, rolled down all the windows to listen to some car drive past us.. she was not so happy when she figured out what i was listening to

Years ago I had a Honda CBX. 6 cyl, 1200cc, nice pipes. Glorious sounds. Another favorite is to be in the pits for an off shore powerboat race. Talk about ragged idles!! They have no need for low end torque, cammed to the max. Love it!
I will also submit my own car... unmuffled BMW inline 6. It is deafening when in the car but it sounds like sex in video.
