Electric stuff is not my forte. Need some help.

I have a quickjack that I bought here in the states, running on 110V. But I’ll be moving to Sweden soon and the quickjack goes in the container with the rest of all the shop stuff, so I need it to run on 230V. My first thought was to buy a converter, but when I checked out the markings on the electric motor I noticed that it was marked for both 50/60Hz and 110/230 Volt. Quickjack is sold on both markets.

Knowing nothing about electric motors, I therefore ask: is it possible that the same motor is used on both markets and “programmed” by the wiring in the control box? Is this how it’s typically done? If I rewire it according the diagram + change the plug, will it work on 230V?

Yes, defintely.

The wiring is a little confusing because the 2nd leg either runs through the capacitor or some sort of switch (that white thing). Can you take a closer picture of the wiring to see what that white switch is?

But yes, just get a power cord from Grainger with the correct plug or go to Clas Ohlson (love that place) and get an adaptor.

Is it possible to get a more detailed image of the white “box”?

Appreciate the help!

Here are some more and better pics.

In reply to paranoid_android :

Looks like some sort of relay.

Indeed.

So... do I need to swap that relay for the equivalent 230V version?

I think that if I wasn't comfortable with those electron bits and moving, etc., that I'd wait till I got to Sweden and hire a Polish electrician who would probably rewire that thing for your for a bottle of hootch, or twenty Euros, and it would work when he left.

As I’ve stated, I’m not awesome at electric stuff, but... does he really have to be Polish?

Yeah, ok... that is pretty good advice. I actually know a good place to take it to back home as well. I mostly wanted to confirm it doesn’t need a new electric motor.

Don't worry about the relay it's set up to handle the voltage range you will be using. The diagram is what you will use. Just hook it up as shown and you will be fine.

Like brad said, you are good to go once you rewire it, just need an adapter for the plug.

Awesome! Thank you very much guys!

Hmm, the coil on the relay is 120v.  I didn't look to close at the wiring to see if that part will work on 240v.  But yes, mix and match the wires for the higher voltage and it will work.  Any sparky can do this.
