Chris Cornell has passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at aged 52. Sad news.

R.I.P. Chris

Sad. As a general rule I tend to prefer instrumental music. He was one of the exceptions.

Damn, this one hurts. One of the most talented guys there was. Sadly never got to see him live. I'll be playing the full Audioslave anthology today in memoriam.

There are quite a few bands that would no longer be making music together if it weren't for his influence on them, this one hurts.

Listened to a lot of Soundgarden when we got back from Desert Storm and this thing called Grunge had taken over since we left...

I saw a Facebook story that someone said he had just sent a Tweet 7 hours earlier.

In reply to Jerry:

He had a show last night at the Fox Theater in Detroit. The local news this morning showed some of the concert that was video'ed by fans.

This is shocking! Became a fan after seeing them in 1994 at Summerfest.

I was gutted this morning hearing the news that he passed. One of my favorite vocalists, and one I never got to see, and now he's gone.

Ever listen to a song (or album) and have it take you back to a particular point in time? That was Soundgarden's Superunknown album. Every time I hear a song from that one, it's the summer between 6th and 7th grade, which in my town, was the summer between elementary and middle school. My friends and I would go raise hell all over the place that summer. It was a dry one, and there was a little covered bridge near our town's high school that had a water pipe running under the road. It was so dry that you could go down there and hang out in the "tunnel". My friend had a portable CD player and some PC speakers, and that album would be cranked to 11 all summer as we hung out in the tunnel, which we made our home base for whatever we were going to pull off that day. Good times...

I hated 80's hair metal. Then Soundgarden, along with other bands like Pearl Jam, STP, etc. brought along some music that involved talent and meaning. Of course, then Nirvana followed and berkeleyed that all up - sorry Dave, I forgive you & I'm a fan now, but it took a long time for me to get over that...

Cornell is still one of my favorite vocalists though.

Same here. Black Hole Sun was the song of Summer 94. We were getting our licenses to drive and we could go anywhere and do anything. We were free and Soundgarden was our soundtrack.

I really wish he and Layne had sung together for more than 30 seconds.

Gutting news. It's the first thing my wife said to me this morning.

We had this poster hanging in the studio when I DJ'ed at school:

At the time, the album was new. The Seattle scene/sound was new, too. It was part of what was killing hair metal. We were watching the musical landscape change--well, as well as we could without internet, cable TV, etc.

Fast forward a few decades. We go to a lot of concerts--a lot. A few years back I realized that I hadn't yet seen three of my big, big favorites: Van Halen (w/DLR), Devo and Soundgarden. We knocked off Devo a few years ago and saw Van Halen on their last go-around.

Three weeks ago we finally saw Soundgarden. They headlined the Welcome to Rockville fest in Jax. They. Sounded. Amazing. One of the most epic performances I have seen. During a quiet moment, a girl behind me yelled out, "Oh my God, I love you so!" That pretty much summed up the entire evening.

Yeah, this one is a loss. I'm waiting to hear details, and listening to a lot of his work.

This is a rough one to take.

I don't think I'll ever feel as bad about someone I don't know as I did when Layne died, but this one is up there.

Like others have said, I'm just the right age that Soundgarden was the soundtrack to the part of my youth where I was just getting to taste a little freedom. I agree, this one hurts.

Yeah, I had heard that rumor, but I want to wait until the details are released.

Saw them in the 90's and last in '14 with Nine Inch Nails. Lakewood Amphitheatre in Atlanta. They started Black Hole Sun and the darkest clouds you've ever seen rolled in (just like the music video) and it poured for 5 minutes. The song ended and so did the rain. One of the best concert experiences I've ever had.

Rocking Badmotorfinger this morning.

This is maybe the only celebrity death that I've really cared about, and I'm not even an enormous Soundgarden fan. Dude was so incredibly talented - he had so much range! I've had a rotating cast of his songs stuck in my head all day.

I was pretty shocked to hear that. In addition to Audioslave and Soundgarden, his solo work was awesome. "You Know My Name" is one of the best Bond Theme Songs ever.

I've had "I Am The Highway" on repeat in my earbuds for about the last hour. I think I'm gonna stick with it for the rest of the day.

Maybe it's just me but to this day every time I hear the opening to Rusty cage I am overwhelmed with the desire to find another motorcyclist and kick and or hit then with a chain whip.
