As a youngster and an enthusiastic Oakland Raiders fan, the so-called "immaculate reception" caused shouts of dismay and a profound depression that lasted for several hours.  I managed a recovery, but it wasn't until many years later that I forgave Franco Harris for what he did to my team, and eventually I even came to tolerate the Steelers.

Fare thee well, good sir!

Just had to explain "immaculate reception" to Grandma Stampie. Sad to lose a legend.

This has hit Pittsburgh hard. Particularly because the 50th anniversary celebrations have already started with his number to be retired by the Steelers this Saturday.

He was a great guy that was involved in the community and was very gracious with every fan that approached him.

He was a true class act.

I had a Franco Harris jersey in elementary school.  He was one of my few sports heros. Godspeed, Franco.

When you fly into Pittsburgh International Airport there are two statues that greet you. One is George Washington, who founded the nation, and the other is Franco Harris, who completed the immaculate reception.
