So, my wife is turning 30 in April, and to celebrate we are going to go to Sanibel, Fl. for a few days. Thinking mid to late April, for the trip. After a quick look at Mapquest, I noticed that The Dragon wasn't too far out of the way, so I added that.
So, for now, its Omaha, to Nashville (12ish hours). Nashville, through Deals Gap, to Atlanta (8ish hours). Atlanta to Sanibel (9ish hours).
Quick question about the route from Deals Gap to Atlanta. Should I stay head down 5/515, or head down 19/400 at Blairsville? Is one more scenic then the other? Either way, I end up in Atlanta, so end result is the same.
Anything else I should add to the trip down? Any places at any of those spots we should go to eat/see?
I figure I will be just heading straight back, at the end of the trip. Will want to try and clip that off in two days. Wife isn't a big fan of loooong drive periods. I figure 12 hours will be all I can get away with. LOL
Coming from the Dragon's Tail - 5/515 is more of a direct shot to Atlanta. If you go 19/400, thats more backwoods, scenic route, where all the Moonshiners were from... If you do go 400, stop off in Dawsonville at "The Pool Room", its a Bill Elliott themed restraunt with bits of crashed pieces on the wall ![](/media/img/icons/smilies/grin-18.png)

Sanibel- absolutly beautiful. Just don't speed on the bridge going in. Speed limit is something like 5mph, and is strictly enforced. Welcome to our little island, please pay this speeding ticket for 12mph in a 5 zone.
Thanks, Duke! That is good info.
Yeah, wife already warned me about the bridge! LOL.
Anyone else?
Do you like clowns? Hall of fame is in Sarasota, FL: http://www.theclownmuseum.org/links.php
My sisters house is on that route, I would not suggest stopping though. It could piss off your wife AND my sister.

I really want to go to Nashville for all the music stuff there is there.
I'm going to assume that you will be going through St. Louis, but if you want to make a detour (google maps gives me an added 2 hours of boring drive) and you like Fried Chicken, go to Rips Chicken in Ladd Illinois. Its a tiny town, less than 1500 people--and yet every weekend you have a hard time finding places to park just because of this place. The best fried chicken ever, without a doubt.
