I have a project I am working on, that I am not ready to buy tires for yet, as I just want to sort the engine and drive it a very little before I decide to take out the engine and part it out  or leave it in and keep the whole car.

Problem is 3/4 tires don’t hold air for more than 24-48 hours.  Other than searching Craigslist for a cheap set of used tires usually hooked to some wheels any other resources  to get some used tires?

or do I just slime them and deal with it later if I keep the car in one piece?

A lot of corner garages I see have a rack of used tires out front. Might try one of them. Especially if you’re looking for a common size.

Locally 3 tire places here sell used tires for 25 each including mount and balance. Call around your local tire shops

I just picked up two rollers for the RX7 for $25 each at a used tire place nearby.

If it's being stored indoors put the car on dollies.

Here is a CL sample.

At $160 this would be $40 per wheel tire for 4. But, there are 5 so more like $32 each.

Keep the best 4 out of the 9 you would then have and resell the ones you don't want to keep. You should be able to get down toward a $0 total cost w/o having to spend $15 per tire on mounting.

Or, if you buy a loose tire for $25 and then pay $15 to have it mounted that is $40 for just new rubber. With these you will then have the same cost but one set to store the car on (flat spot) and another set to drive on

In reply to John Welsh :

And I know from experience that those old Lexus wheels with old tires on them don’t sell real well. I’ve sold a set of four for $50-$100 before I don’t remember which. They weren’t great but they were round and held air for long enough to drive on.

This is a good idea. I will just keep my eyes open on CL and face book.

Tires are not always the leakers.    Check the valve stem. Make sure the core is tight.
