This election sure has brought out the best and worst in people. I've noticed on many forums that I belong to that have sort of an open "off-topic" section. I hope things settle down....how's a guy suppose to goof of at work(on the internet) all this garbage going on.

I actually got so pissed over an unjustified personal attack on me in another political thread here last week that I was pounding the desk with my fist. Instead of replying in anger to the attack, I logged off of the computer and just walked away. I haven't even glanced at this board until today, and it looks like things have gotten worse.

Sometimes the best answer is to just log off and walk away. There is a lot of hatred and anger on this board. Maybe in another couple of weeks I will find an interesting car at an auction and want the advice of somebody who is an expert on that car as to how I could build it, and I will find that advice from half a dozen people who actually know what they are talking about. The board is still a good place to find that kind of information. But for right now, I am staying clear of this place. Lower blood pressure is a good thing.

Stepping back, I think what is happening here is a macro view of what is happening in the US right now.(plus a little of that internet anonymity bravado.) I think once people realize the world is not going to explode on Jan 21(or is it 22) that we will be OK.

I believe this because I see the same behavior in other boards I haunt. For example look at Slickdeals. http://forums.slickdeals.net/ The lounge is like the Off-Topic forum here. The Podium is a separate part of the board dedicated to just political nonsense. Tensions are so great that the political talk has moved over to the lounge and is very pervasive.
