The subs are the wildcard.......surface ships would be easy targets to a simple strategy of numerical advantage.
Easy targets?
I'm not usually one to come over all ultra-patriotic, "Murica, F-yeah", but that made me snicker . No other nation on Earth can field the number and quality of ships we can, so the numerical advantage is on our side. Russian (really USSR) used to be able to, but most of them now sit rotting at the docks for want of maintenance and trained crews.
Try and get close in, even in a little pleasure boat, let me know how that goes:
That being said, I really hope things over there calm down. Another World War would be horrible beyond imagination, I agree with Albert Einstein when he said, "I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.”
Putin, in front of a youth camp audience... threatened the use of nuclear weapons.....

Surface ships are very vulnerable to Exocet missiles.......and enough of them fired at a time means bad news. Aegis and the Phalanx close in stuff can only do so much.

This.
War. It's like we need to have a war on war so we can quit having so much war.
The following is intended somewhat humorously, I am not advocating WW3.
It has been 70 years of US/Russian tensions. More if you consider Pre-WW2 anti-communist sentiment that was put on hold for the war. If this was a rom-com, it would be the point where some 3rd person would yell "Just berkeley already".
That said, I'm interested in Russia's true military strength. Namely what percentage is cold war left overs(and what condition they are in) vs. new stuff.
I have other thoughts as to related matters, but I must save those for later.

Well, if its even built, the new Russian MBT should be a good matchup for the Abrams(on paper) and Sukhoi is working on the competitor to the F-22 currently.
well... I just wasted 30 minutes.

Why is EU wasting their time on sanctions? Russia is still going to go forward with their objectives on Ukraine regardless.

Few reasons:
A. They're spineless.
B. They get a lot of gas from Russia.
C. The US is tangled up in the middle east still, and we're likely going to be the ones doing all the heavy lifting in that particular scenario.
If the sanctions would target Russia's energy sector, they'd have some teeth...
Anybody remember the Cuban missle crisis ?
Scary.
A WW3 would be the end of the world as we know it.
This thread is letting me down big time. I want to be scared out of my whits with premonitions of ww3 and Armageddon mixed with a side of the rapture. I'm not scared enough.
