Looking to replace the touring tires on the '05 S197. Factory 17 x 8 rim, 235/55-17 tire size. Googles, S197 forums and tire reviews narrows it down some.
Performance street tire w/ good wet characteristics, no snow, mileage is not a primary concern. Chance of Auto-X but would really like to track-cross w/o swapping wheels/ tires out. I still summer DD this but that will likely change soon w/ future mods.
So far I'm impressed w/ the MT Street Comps and Nitto NT555s reviews, these always seem to float to the top. Next are BFG KDW, Cooper RS3A, Falken Azenis, Kuhmo Ecsta ASX and Nitto INVOs but I haven't delved too far in research w/ these yet.
Currently planning on stock rim fitment but may opt for 18 x 9 in a wheel/ tire combo... or do a stagger combo, money permitting. Suspension upgrades will likely follow: 1 to 1-1/2" drop, D-Spec shocks/ struts, TCAs, PHB etc. Not looking to invest a fortune in this build as a Coyote is already calling my name.
I know it's all a compromise and a tall order but I'd prefer to buy tires/ wheels once as this E36 M3 can drive ya broke. Focus is primarily on tires but any tire/ wheel advice is appreciated.
Whatcha got GRM
I've been looking into the Toyo Proxes 4 Plus all-seasons as a replacement for the stock Pirelli summer-only tires on my 2013 V-6, once those wear out. The Toyos are getting rave reviews and are reasonably priced even for the 255/40 R19s I'm rollin' on (I may get a separate, lighter set of wheels and summer tires for autocross/track days).
Do you think this will fit the bill?

Personally, if you know you want a 5.0, I'd just save the money for the big upgrade. You won't get any money back from the mods and it might be easier to sell unmolested.

That's been nagging me in the back of my mind. I like to see my projects finished through (especially this one) but there's a limit on returns.
At the end of this build I'd still end up w/ a little over 300 RWHP not going internal on the engine or boosting. Hard to compare to 412-420 HP right outta the box.
Kind of my dilemma there.

Dang, Toyo didn't even show up on the search. Thnx

No dilemma. You'll spend thousands that you won't get back that you could put towards the Coyote engine'd version of the car.
Just be patient. The Coyote is worth it. I miss mine all the time.
I'm still running the factory 17x8s on mine too. What you want are 255/50 r 17s. VAST improvement over the 235 factory tire, and they're almost as wide as most people run on 9" rims anyway. YOu can run them square for rotation to maximize the mileage and the extra rubber really helps front grip. It's a fairly limited size though. I'm currently running Khumo Ecstas and they're pretty good. Decent wet behavior, good dry grip with predictable breakaway. They do get a little noise at the limit of grip, and you'll want to run about 35psi on the street.
I was running Fuzion ZRi s when they were still available in that size. I think the fuzions had higher ultimate grip, but they got hard quickly from daily heat cycles.
Slap a set of those on and you can up your traction for a few bux over stock size and still save for the 'Yote.
