I might be traveling there and would like some insight into what you can/can't do the first week or so of November. I have all day (to myself) as I'm tagging along with the wife -while she works..

Any and all ideas are welcome as my interests are pretty much all over the map. Mostly.

That boring, eh?

Well. I'll just have to look at the tourist's board. I'm sure they wouldn't mislead me....

Heh, November's not the best time of year to be in SLC. Too late to enjoy the excellent hiking/mountains, too early to ski. There is a killer car museum out at the Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele (west of SLC pronounced too-wil-la). Lots of cool vintage ford race cars (GT-40, shelby, daytona coupe, mustang, etc.) Hill AFB north of SLC has a cool aerospace museum.

The salt lake is worth seeing. There's an island you can drive to across a long causeway (antelope isl.)

Bonneville salt flats is about 1.5hrs west of slc but it may be covered in water or at least muddy.

A visit to the LDS Temple Square downtown is worthwhile. Either take a tour or just peek around.

Make sure you try the "Fry Sauce" served at burger joints it's a unique Utah thing that's really grown on me.

I'll maybe come back and add more stuff if I remember anything.

You must get a garlic burger at the Cotton Bottom Inn. Its at the mouth of Big Cottonwood canyon right at the intersection of Holladay ln and E 6200 s.

I assume you aren't into rock climbing or you wouldn't be asking what to do in SLC . Señor 2002 has most of the car-ish things to do.

Park City is also a good place to go and kill some time. In November, it's possible that you'll have some snow up there. The Main Street is fun to walk around and visit the shops. You could go and catch a University of Utah football game (my Alma Mater) depending on when you'll actually be there, then swing over to The Pie (just off campus) and grab yourself a delicious and huge pizza. It's been 8 years since I lived there, but I'll also try to think up some other stuff to check out.

More great suggestions. I'll probably run out of time before I run out of things to do (a good thing!).

thanks guys.

2001-2002, then finished up 2005-2008. I grew up in the valley. I haven't lived there since I graduated though.

Finalizing plans and I'm curious as to why it's too late to do any hiking? Too cold?

-thanks.

The first winter storms are coming through here on their way to Utah, so you may or may not encounter snow.

Most years, there's enough snow on trails by then that they are accessible only by snowshoe. You may actually get some good hiking in this year. There has not been much snow so far.

You'll need to log in to post.
