It would seem so. I know that's what I did at my ex's house over a decade ago. Used a sledge hammer while wearing chainsaw chaps and a face shield. When cast iron shatters it can result in sharp pieces of metal flying all over the room. Putting a heavy towel over where you're hitting also helps.
Afterwards, I got $3 for the cast iron remains at the recycling center.
