So now that it doesn't work worth a darn any longer, and hasn't for weeks, what do you guys use as an alternative when trying to find something over a given area? That's what I loved search tempest for, the ability to say "go look X miles out from this spot".
I use Firefox and the plug-in "Craigslist Helper." It's not flawless but does work.
search tempest found me my volvo..
I use Searchtempest every day and it's still working for me.
Searchtempest works great if you use it in direct results mode.
Hey foxtrapper! One of the SearchTempest developers here. Could you let us know what frustrations you're having with SearchTempest so we could look in to fixing it for you? Thanks!

Operator error. I use Search Tempest all the time. If you can't figure it out, stop by and I'll give you a lesson.

Sure.
In a nut shell, it fails to find many listings, and fails to load all the regions.
Specific example.
Searching motorcycles for "pacific coast" within 200 miles of zip code 21230.
It finds the first few regions, fails to ever load the remaining. Page count on the bottom goes from 1 of 4 to 1 of 2.
Go to next page, all regions on page 2 instantly load.
Go back to page 1, it loads all the hits from page 2 into page 1, and there is no more page 2. We've gone from 4 pages to 1 page of regions, dumping the nearest ones.
At the top it will say "no results found in these cities". Go to those cities directly and I find hits. For example, Richmond is in this list of no results, but go to it directly, and there's a pacific coast for sale.

I think it's God's way of telling you not to buy an ugly motorcycle.
Humf! Coming from a guy riding a Vstrom...
Does it for just about everything it seems. Log splitters, chicken coops, etc.
Maybe God just doesn't want me to have toys.
I thought you guys were looking for old Pontiacs...

What browser are you working in? I find it works much better in Firefox than in Chrome.
Chrome at home and Explorer at work. Interesting that you're finding it to work better in Firefox. It's still on the PC at home, just haven't used it for some time.

I use Firefox, so maybe that's why I'm lucky.

What's the alternative? There are no new Pontiacs.
