You don't cook steaks in the house you ninny!

Now if yer draggin' the barby into the house you've got other issues!

Incorrect. Take a heavy stainless pan. Leave it dry. Heat it so hot that water beads and dances on the surface when you sprinkle some on. Then put a dry room temp steak on the pan. Flip it when it releases from the pan, not before. Flip to the other side, repeat sear. Then use tongs to hold it on each side to sear. Place whole pan in oven for 6-10 min to finish. Remove. Put steak on side to rest. Heat pan with a small amount of red wine in the pan. Deglaze pan with wine scrape pan clean and then reduce to a sauce. Pour over steak.
The only problem is you need a vent hood of massive size to ensure your house isn't smoked out.
I cook steaks on the grill as well, but find the above method easier and of higher quality. I was thinking of doing a sous vide steak and then using the Searzall. We shall see. I need an immersion cooker first.

Change this to cast iron, and you've got my move.

This man knows what he speaks of.
I do just this to cook 2 bone prime ribs. The smoke is so thick you can hardly see.
The only way I can get away with it is because the kitchen has a pocket door and a sliding door out to the back that I open when doing the deed.
Amazing steaks.
If you must cook a steak on the propane grill, give it a chance and pat it as dry as possible before you toss it on the grate.
my way is similar to what has been posted
cast iron frying pan on stove top eye on high for at least 5 min
oven on to 500º or as high as your oven will go
season your room temp steak with whatever your choices are
place in the hot/dry frying pan, 10 - 15 sec each side, then pan and steaks into the oven.
2- 3 min each side (depending on how you want your steak)
remove the steaks from the frying pan, and let rest for a couple of min
enjoy
FWIW, I've never had any luck grilling ... do I lose man man/GRM card by admitting this ? )
but once I found the way above, I've not messed up a steak ... even when someone was eating with us that wanted their steak to replace the bottoms of their shoes

I was expecting some joke about cutting cars up with a lightsaber.

Of course you could do the frying pan method by heating the pan on a propane barbeque and make the smoke outside (provided the neighbors don't call the fire department)!

Those are people you politely tell to get the berkeley out of your house.
Right way to cook a steak: Open up the drawer below your oven. Take out the pots and pans you're storing down there.
Turn the oven setting to "Broil". Leave for five minutes until it is scorchingly hot.
Place steaks on pan centered within 1" of the flame.
Cook for ninety seconds.
Remove. Let stand for two minutes. Eat.
