Found it...I should have known I'd be a day late. Neat stuff, for sure.

That's neat- and a LOT of work!
I can tell you from experience, Sharpie washes off after a while. We have to re-apply "Tom" in black Sharpie over the "Celica" badge every couple of months.
gotta be a way to do this with a fine point paint marker. sharpie is ink, i can spit on it and take it off with a cloth. A paint marker though.....hmmmmm paint is harder to get off
Hey guys! I wanted to say thanks for the post about the Mustang I just completed, and to inform anyone that wants to know that I clear coated this after I finished the artwork. I also paint cars and motorcycles for a living so making artwork like this permanent is important to me. I did the roof of this particular Mustang last year, and just finished the front end and trunk last week- as you can see the ink on the roof held up. To be honest, paint markers are a pain and just don't have a real natural flow to them- but it is doable. After doing 6 cars I say ink is the way to go!

How many sharpies did that take?
How are you getting smooth ink lines? I've been trying to sharpie an RC body, and i'm getting all sorts of wierd drag lines through the middle of what I lay down. Sort of annoying.

That guy lives like 15 minutes from me. I saw him and his car at a show last weekend. This thing has to be seen in person to fully appreciate how freaking awesome it is.
This particular job took 12 markers to do- 11 fine and 1 wide to do the major filling. I basically only use the wide marker in thick areas where the fine tip would streak- this helps things look a little sharper, fuller and cleaner. But I don't use it much. Getting smooth lines takes practice, but coming from a background in airbrushing and pinstriping helped me. Ideally the faster you can get the line down, the smoother it'll look. Fine point markers out of the box will tend to push the ink out of the middle of the line because if it's sharp tip. This Mustang is my favorite yet... can't wait for the next one!
