Yes.
It may be the unloved bastard of the Jeep world, but I've been craving one of these as a "farm truck" for years. A motorcycle fits inside with the passenger seat removed. The back door swings open nicely for carrying engines and other large objects. The inline-6 is the favored version of these as it is a better engine. The transmissions is a little funky unit, but it's pretty sound. I say go for it. If he was closer I'd consider trading my old bike for it.
Lots of rust in the rear. How available are patch panels? Down here they are available whithout the rust option. I just saw one for sale for $500.00 that wasnt rusty. May be worth a trip to the sunny south if you realy want one.

It's all flat and right angles....
Patch panels are as nearby as your local metal-roofed barn.

Exactly what I was thinking
from the CL listing: "It has been idol for about last 4 or 5 years" Does that mean its was an idol for 4 or 5 years, because it might have spirits trapt in it.
Okay, if it's something you'll never use on the road. My father drove these for years for work and said they were flaming piles of excrement to drive. And this is coming from a man who drover a Willys Jeep to work every day. They are slow, extremely tippy and have no creature comforts to speak of. Best of all, they are cursed with a number of unique parts and the Jeep dealer can't help you.
I think they are kind of neat myself, but it would definatly be something I would be more inclined to use the body with updated mechanicals.
Can they be retrofitted to left hand drive?

I'd want it because it's right hand drive
left has drive is easy

And if you picked up empty bottles on the way you'd return to Michigan a rich man. And a hero since no one has ever pulled off the Michigan bottle scam.
I remember a 4x4 magazine article on them from years ago. They went and made one into a real off-road vehicle.
Like ddavidv was saying, lots of special parts that you can't get easily, extremely weak on performance, and just generally not a very good vehicle. As I recall, the article ended with them questioning the wisdom of their venture.

see my post above for that article.
I think I'd just about kill myself laughing if I ever saw one of those doing a wheelie down the quarter mile. With that wheelbase you wouldn't even need too much power. Just some big sticky meats.
I'm just saying.
Heh, why do people keep posting things like this here and asking "should I?" Are you seriously expecting a no?

I dunno, a buddy had one of those things many years ago, IIRC it had a Chevy 4 cyl and Powerglide? He thought it was a 'real Jeep' and managed to roll the crap out of it while going up a incline near the Broad River in Columbia. He fell out and only got scratches and bruises (being drunk has its advantages!), the DJ didn't survive.
