The bigger 4 seater UTVs are 150-160" vs the smaller 4 door SUV being 166"-180"

If the 20ish inches is that crucial, sounds like he only has 1 option then...Bucking up for the UTV, Truck, and Trailer. 2 Door wranglers/CJ are nice for 2 people but will not make too many happy customers with stuffing them in the back seat because most of the people buying land like that are not usually the youngest people in the world.

Ive brought up the back seat issues and the idea of an suv.

Hes against it, citing width, and the property seller perception of potential damage to the land (the 4x4 guys here are notorious for tearing E36 M3 up according to john q public).

So, wether or not its a better tool for the job, he's not taking it.

A work type focused SXS is probably the answer here,  not scary like the big suspension stuff currently being sold.

Something like a Kubota one or https://ranger.polaris.com/en-us/ranger-crew-570-6-full-size/ or a John Deere one..  The "work " type brands are going to give him more cred with the farmer type crew.

Great views, easy on the terrain (until you do donuts) and older ones are easy to get for under $8k. Simple lawnmower engine, the chain drives can be tricky, but its all simple, robust stuff. Light enough to tow behind most cars.

What the hell is that, and any links? That looks PERFECT for what he does.

Yeah, it sounds like he needs something like a Polaris Ranger Crew, not a Razr. Looks like the base model 4 door Polaris Ranger is something like $11,000, so I would think a used one could be down under budget? Perhaps tractor or equipment dealers would have better prices on a John Deere or Kubota compared to the powersports dealers.

Paired with a trailer like this:

The combo should be easily towed by a Tacoma.

Polaris Ranger CREW XP 1000 EPS  L 152" W 62.5" H 77"

4 Door Suzuki Sidekick 4x4  L 162″ W 67″ W H 67″

4.5" difference?

SUV's have a bad wrap there?  We all cuss the SxS idiots around here, 80% of them have no experience prior to leaving the dealer's lot, so haven't developed any of the skills needed to be hooning them like they attempt to, 70% of them are drunk, and 95% of them don't have a speed slower than full throttle.  I could go on another rant about LED light bars they all have, that apparently don't have an off switch, it's real fun to meet a ground based supernova coming your direction on a trail, but that's not germane to the current discussion.

Hey, you kids get off my lawn!

Im not saying that I AGREE with his no suv, or that hes even right. But, his money.

And here, the hunters that "take care of the land" use side by sides according to the old farmers at our church. The "damn rednecks tear up it to go mudding". Again, right or wring it is what it is.

Personally,  i think a 4x4 straight six Cherokee with lockers and an automatic would be perfect for this. But.....

Believe that's an Argo 8x8

They also make a 6x6... but I'd be looking at something with ac to haul clients in.

SxS turf tires will minimize the 4x4 capabilities and the impact on lawns.

I would expect those preconceived notions would be moot when dealing with someone that is working for the landowners to show/sell the property.

I may be cynical, but it sounds to me like this is more a case of wanting a toy and using it to show properties is a way to justify it. The added benefit is that by making it dual purpose it can become a business expense.

I don't have a problem with that, and think it's a creative approach, but if he's upfront about it we can eliminate a lot of the suggestions around SUVs and the more utilitarian SXS and ATVs and focus on identifying a good solution.

Unless he's selling swamp or marsh land, I wouldn't consider an Argo. If he has to have a SxS, I'd look at the Kawasaki Teryx 4-seaters. They are very dependable, quite capable and getting in and out for the rear passengers is fairly easy. The Honda Pioneer 700/1000 are available in 4 seaters but the rear passenger access isn't as good IMO. I would not recommend a John Deere Gator or a Kubota SxS for what he's wanting to use it for. Hopefully his clients don't mind being hot, sweaty, dusty, cold, wet, bug bitten, etc while they are trying to look at a potential purchase. He will want to add a windshield and roof to it at minimum to keep clients somewhat "comfortable" by being at least partially blocked from sun, rain, wind, etc.

As an added bonus, if he does want the SxS as a "toy" as well as a business tool, the Teryx is plenty capable of trail riding on all but the most extreme trails. Wouldn't want to drop it in a mud hole though.

A 4x4 SUV would be much, much cheaper and a much better place to be while looking at land. Any land owner that has issue with the realtor driving a truck/suv on the property must not have much interest in actually selling the land. Almost any 4x4 SUV with a regular set of all terrain tires should work fine for his needs. Jeep Cherokee XJ 4.0 (97-99), Jeep Grand Cherokee WJ 4.0, Isuzu Rodeo/Honda Passport 3.2, Nissan Xterra, Toyota 4runner, etc.

With a SxS, he's going to have to load/unload at each property the client wants to see which can be a hassle especially if it's hot, cold, raining, muddy, etc.
