I dumped mine under the truck bed because it was easier, but I was planning on side pipes. Do it. Bring it here and I'll weld it up for you.

You'll burn yourself once, it will hurt, A LOT! Any woman who burns herself will probably refuse to ever get in the car again. YMMV
Parts are all sourced out trigger pulled on the side pipes. Once they get here mock up then buy the rest of the parts. The best part is its about 1/2 the price of what the muffler shop wanted to put a over the axle system in like what it had.

What else are you going to do with a 4 door car? It's already a waste of sheet metal.
There's a contractor from Indiana working in or plant right now. He has a late model GM cargo van as his service vehicle, with rims and wide tires, small bubble windows on the side, and side pipes. It's pretty cool, and sounds AWESOME!!

With all that scaffolding, I don't imagine that car gets a lot of female passengers anyway.

If she can navigate that she's a contortionist.. n that's a good thang
The downside is that i have to hear the vomiting of a 2.2 SOHC 12v bellowing out of that every morning at 5am when i leave for work. So far i've survived it for 20k miles, i figure eventually i'll become completely numb.

Hopefully she will not be wearing nylons.. getting burnt is bad enough, but getting melted plastic stuck to the wound ontop of that would just be adding the misery.
I thought about a sidepipe on my fiat. sort of like the Lotus 7.. but eventually decided against it

funny u mention the wearing nylons part. been there done that was pretty bad. luckily i healed up with no scarring tho.

I think the middle of this car is too low (vs. the nose and tail) for it. It doesn't look bad but it looks kinda like a toy.
AMC even had sidepipes as a factory option and available at the dealer. Do it!
To celica: Lame. A fart dump out a bumper is not dual sidepipes off of a V8. You can only scare poodles on one side of your car.

A straight pipe off the turbo is lame? What the berkeley?

Yeah, it is. Pure sloth is the only reason it's even there, to the owner's own admission it sounds like E36M3, and it's illegal just about everywhere.
My last turbo car had a 3" downpipe going through a resonator and a single downturn under the car. It sounded like a badass V8 at idle, you could hear the turbo make all of it's fun noises, and I never had to deal with cops pulling me over or racetracks not letting me run.
Don't confuse laziness for coolness.

Lazy because:
1) It was there when i bought the car.
2) If you think you can get a 3" under the car without an obscenely expensive 180 degree tight bend downpipe or notching the frame, feel free to try.
Sounding like E36 M3 isn't something i care much about on a $900 car. I've never had a cop pull me over (for the exhaust at least), and the tracks thing seems to have been a miscommunication. It's legal. (And yes, sounds like E36 M3 but it makes a LOT of power, ask Garaithon sometime. He'll go on record saying it's the fastest 7psi car ever. )
But you're right, i'd rather have the ugly lumpy moaning of half a V8 exiting BOTH sides of my car.
Also: We're doing the same exhaust on mndsm's car. Come to the challenge and you'll get to hear TWO of these!

F2Ts sound like E36 M3 no matter what you do. I'm betting you and I have very different ideas of what constitutes a badass V8, and I'm pretty sure he has to cut structural sheet metal to run a normal exhaust.
As you were. I'll just go back to looking at JDMyo parts for my Miata.
I think that dump pipe on the MX6 is freaking sweet! I would do it too if I had some cheap turbo car.

The second gen Firebird is one of the best cars out there to have side pipes on. They don't look good on just anything (like my Mustang!), but I had a set on my '70 Formula 400 and they looked and sounded great. I think a body that tapers in towards the bottom really helps, as the pipes are tucked in some. I also had a set on a '71 Pinto wagon that I dropped a Boss 302 into. In 1978 it looked killer!

Yeah also that. F2Ts don't really sound good under any circumstances. I also hate the sound of Ford smallblocks, so i'm a bit weird.

99% of the OHV V8s I've heard from any manufacturer sound like ass.

That can always be fixed with a front air dam.... that I want any way but can not find yet.

For drag racing, maybe, but it's definitely not SCCA legal, man.
I get that it was there when you bought the car, but you can do so much better, I've seen the quality work you can put out. Post-Challenge I expect something cool on that car (if it lives).

Why not? I haven't seen a rule that says you can't. There are noise restrictions yes but nothing on where the exhaust can exit.
Rule 3.5 said: Adequate mufflers are required for Solo® events. The criterion of “adequacy” is not what the exhaust system consists of, but the sound level. Any car deemed by the Event Chairman or his designated representative to be excessively loud shall not compete without acceptable modifications installed on the car.
