Simple question from a non VW guy

Why is this:

called a caddy? Pic shamelessly hotlinked from, well, this board.

Because it hauls E36 M3, beer and clubs, much like a golf caddy.

Further confusion ensues.

Because if it was a Cabby, the top would come down.

because somebody somewhere thought it sounded cool. I've wondered myself where that came from. Maybe from 'cowboy caddy', but I always understood that to be a beat-up pickup.

That's what it was sold as overseas?

yes it was.. and I have no idea why

After buying the above Caddy, I joined a Board in England. Imagine a 1996 Jetta whacked off into a pickup.

Added to the list of cool stuff we can't have.

So if you look at all those descriptions you see that a caddy is generally designed to hold and transport things.......Kinda like a VW caddy...get it?

And as it was based on the "golf" the name "caddy" is just perfect.
