So last month a friend and I visited the Auto & Teknik Museum in Sinsheim, Germany. It's basically an assemblage of, well, everything they can get. Cars, planes, military vehicles, bikes, robots, weird stuff, etc. Words cannot describe the immensity of stuff contained in the museum's two buildings and outdoor areas. We spent all day there and still missed the second campus containing an entire U-Boot and a complete Russian Buran space shuttle; that's going to be a return trip for sure.
Anyway, I took like three hundred photos despite desperately trying to limit myself. I've put 59 of them in this here gallery along with requisite snarky commentary. Here's a little preview:
I'd really reccomend going to the gallery and looking at the rest though. If any of you are planning a trip to Germany at all DEFINITELY make the time to check out this museum. It's probably the coolest one I've ever been in, period. It's also only half an hour from the Hockenheimring, where the German GP is held.
Enjoy!
I've actually heard of some friends who have Lambo tractor up in the hills someplace...still used.
Vector is a weird car, but surprisingly I knew what it was when I saw the first pic.

Nice pics, Jay. It seems like a fascinating place.
Love this shot...the Ferrari looks like it's cowering behind the Vector .
Also, Lamborghini still make tractors - http://www.lamborghini-tractors.com/en-EN/defaulten.html

Ferrari's never cower behind a Vector.
They just wait until it breaks and leave it in the dust.

Heh, it was funny. That particular display had about ten other cars in it, all Ferraris and Lambos, including a Countach and a Miura, which every automotive writer ever has prattled on about how beautiful it is at some point in their career. Blah blah blah. Let me tell you there was ONE car in that display that had me transfixed for at least a good twenty minutes, and it sure wasn't Italian.
That's so weird I was talking about vector today, and wishing I'd seen one in person, now I want to get stationed in Germany just to go to there
Hmm it looks like the green one is called "honest john"
I guess the other one is "Fabulous Fred"
The French really left themselves open with this tank:
One one hand the two pods make it look like a frog, on the other hand the height of the gun turret suggests that the flap ahead of the left side pod could be a white flag ejector
This camoflage is actually very smart:
The enemy will be dumbfounded when they see this thing rolling up and will cease fire out of curiosity.

I'm guessing it was for target practice. Great museum, exactly what mine would look like if I built a museum. Except, a few boats thrown in as well.
I really want to see a video of the Vectors winshield wipers woorking. It looks like there are 3, one in the lower left that functions normally, one in the lower right that functions somewhat normally, and then that HUGE one that appears to sweet the entire window in front of the lower right one??
Like I said, would be strange to see..

The Tyrell 6-wheeler would be awesome to see in person.
So much great stuff in one place. Damn...

LOL I will add thayt to the list of things in Europe to go see.
are all Vectors black? I have seen a black one at a cruise in Grand Rapids, MI. It was alot cooler to see that than I thought at the time. I did some research on what exactly it was when I got home and was surprised to see how few of them were made.

The title on the board reads 'Beobachtungspanzer' which would literally translate into 'observation tank'. My guess would be that it's been painted that colour so that the gunners doing national service could tell them apart from the targets...
