These kinds of posts always annoy me. Not everyone does autopay on everything.

Wait, what were we talking about?
i hate when certain people chime in with comments like "oh there was a football game on sunday?" or "sorry never heard of (most famous person or group at anything) who are they?" or "LeWho

I find it annoying when people keep quoting stuff.

Totes true story, jamie48442 and I were at the gym. "Know of any parties tonight?" Asks she "On a Sunday? berkeley no, I'm old" says I. "Why would there be a party on a Sunday?" "Because super bowl" says she. I had to confirm with some dude lifting weights near us. It was true. He looked at me like I was from Mars. I'm fairly out of touch with sports stuff. I'm sure he's telling the story about some terd he met at the gym who didn't know it was the super bowl.

Mobile app? WTF is the matter with you people?
I am the person who would carry checks around for *months* because I never happened to remember to take time out of my routine to go into a bank just to deposit a check. Mobile banking has really made things easier for me.
I am the guy who immediately deposited checks so I wouldn't forget about them. Mobile banking is great for rural areas for sure.

I get charged money if I go inside my bank for any reason other than to withdraw money an ATM won't give me. Phone is more convenient than ATM since I can't go in anyway.
Wait, your bank charges you to walk in and do a transaction? Time to find a new bank...
Agreed. Even "evil" Bank of America doesn't do that. I withdrew two cashier checks a couple of weeks ago. On a Sat, no less. No charge.
Took the check to bank and explained situation to the teller. Clearly she could not have given less of a E36 M3. Their policy it to run a check through twice, if it bounces the second time: tough noogies. She pointed out however that most people have overdraft protection so fingers crossed.
Side note: while I have USAA for insurance I can't stand the thought of not having a brick and mortar bank I can walk into and deal with things on occasion. So for banking I use Chase and have no complaints, no weird fees, no problems whatever. Veterans get super-premium checking for free so if you qualify, check it out.

For all the evil I hear about Chase, I've sure never experienced it. And when I wrote a check for the car I just bought and realized I was over $100 short (mis-calculated the TTL) I was able to find one open on a Sunday to deposit cash in so it would clear on Monday. (No debit card for that account--it really isn't used much)
In fact, I work for a bank. Regionally we're a competitor to Chase, although barely a blip on their radar. My director, senior co-worker, and manager all also have Chase and none of us have reason to leave them. Part of that is because retail isn't in our employers wheelhouse so even the employee banking is worse than Chase's free banking, but it is still a fairly significant realization.

I get paid a paper check every Friday, and there's a US Bank about .5 miles away I hit at lunch. Worked the same location for almost 18 years, they know me well. I could walk into that branch with almost anything now and cash it.
...I still pay half my bills by check mailed out.

If it is your bank they will 'cash' the check as long as you already have that balance in your checking account. but what they are really doing is giving you your own money which they will not reimburse if the check bounces. That is why it is important to go to the bank of the check writer where you do not have an account, if you think something is fishy.

This.
You can cash a check (for free) at two places: One where you have an account, or the one where the check was written from. Notice that if you cash a big check, your balance will often have "Balance" and "Available Balance". They're waiting for that check to clear before they actually give it to you. If you go to the bank where the funds are coming from, they'll give it to you in cold hard cash and that check is no longer your problem. Unless of course the check doesn't clear then, but at least there is no waiting.
