So most of you probably know that I was renting lifetime at a shop. So everything was going well until one night I was working late and I was grabbing some wrenches from the snap-on roll cab all of the sudden the mofo tips over pinning me against the fender of my car. I managed to get out with minor injuries. Now that the car is done. The guy is telling me that the drawers need to be replaced.
The drawers are fully functional he just doesn't like the fact they were dented. So he's asking me to replace them with new ones. These things cost an arm and a leg. I feel like it really wasnt my fault. I didn't have that many drawers open. Does this happen often? Is there a better place to get replacement snap-on parts?
Please advise.

take the drawers to a body shop?
I dont know man, sounds like he's being really sour about it. I understand that people like to keep their tools pristine, but asking you to replace all the dented drawers?
Why did it tip over to begin with? Doesn't seem like snap on tool boxes should just tip over randomly. Maybe this is actually his fault due to assembly or something along those lines.
Hope it works out...
Tell him that if he forgets about the drawers that you won't sue him for his box trying to kill you.

What does this sentence mean?
What is "renting lifetime"?
You busted his E36 M3. Make it right.

I believe that if it was 100% your fault, you should fix it.
It seems weird that a snap on tool box would just fall over.
Have YOU ever written the cheque to pay for a Snap-On box?
I have.
If you laid out that kind of cash, you would expect someone to replace the damaged bits as well.
Roll cabs don't "just tip over" you either had too many drawers (more than one) open at a time, were standing on the bottom drawer to reach the top, or moving it around without the drawers locked causing them to slide open on a turn.
As for assembly, the most assembly I've ever done on a box was bolting the wheels on. I doubt it was his fault that it tipped over on you.

This.
Don't have more than one drawer open, ever. Buy the owner some drawers, lesson learned, move on. If I were to, say, mistakenly door ding a new megabucks car, should I then expect to get off with just an apology simply because it was a mistake?
As someone who saw someone drive a Snap-On toolbox through a bay door in the shop across the parking lot, using a Jeep for propulsion, I'm getting a kick out of some of these replies. (Pump up the brakes after doing brakes, BEFORE you start the engine and throw it in gear...)
I can't imagine paying cash for a Snap-On box. I, quite literally, have lived in houses complete with garage and decent sized lawns, that cost less than a Snap-On toolbox...
I find it interesting that a Snap-On box will let you open enough drawers to tip it over and my $89 filing cabinet won't. I think the Kobalt box my Dad has is interlocked also.
That said, fix or replace the drawers. If you don't you've probably lost your lift time forever. Sometimes you're the bug, sometimes you're the windshield.

Yeah I know I should help replace it. Mama taught me better. I just had a couple of drawers open. Just was wondering if anyone else had it happen and if I was common.
Also trying to see if I find an online place that selling replace drawers for a discounted price

[Mr.T.] One drawer at a time fool. [/Mr.T]
If the dents are not a big deal to you, buy the guy a new or new/used Snappy box that he likes, and take his old one for yourself.
Its a win/win then, because Snap-On boxes are really nice, you would enjoy it, and the dented drawers are of little consequence to you.
well.. maybe you can do the drawers on a time payment system. One drawer a month or so?
I have to agree with pretty much everyone here. One drawer at a time is the rule. you and you alone damaged someone's personal property that they were generous enough to let you use. Be a man and good friend and replace/repair what you damaged.
I also agree with everyone that you should replace the drawers... Oh wait... you already stated that you are going to do the right thing and you're just looking for suggestions on saving some cash...
Maybe you can sell the dented ones on EBay to recoup some of the cost for the new ones. If so, get some pics of them in the current cabinet to show that they still work.
I didn't have that many drawers open.
Two drawers open is too many. Yeah we all get away with it most of the time but there is a reason even a simple tool box comes with operator instructions. I used to think my boss was a prick about his tool box, then I bought my own.
I say the box owner is just being cheap. He probably just got the thing and is still all crazy-protective about it, had to sell a kidney to buy it and couldn't afford any actual tools for it yet, so it's not weighed down properly. You come along and open ONE drawer half-way, and BAM! You're pinned to a car, trying to saw your leg off with a nail clipper, like that guy who had the rock fall on him.
Clearly, it's all his fault for not weighing down the box properly. Oh, and if it's any kind of special edition box, you know, with a NASCAR mural on it or something, you're screwed. Just leave town tonight.

Why would he want this one? It's all dented up...

Most of the Snap-On boxes I've seen would straight up berkleying kill you if the fell on you.

Just like mom and dad always said, "You opened it, you close it." No need at all for any drawers to be open. Get what you want out and close the drawer. You don't want to hear this, but it's 100% your responsibility. If it was my tool box, I'd want it fixed also. Possibly one of those paintless dent removal places can get things back to normal at a reasonable price.
My Snap-On box fell over because I had too many drawers open. Fortunatly I wasnt under it and it only leaned about 20 deg. and stopped because the bottom drawer was open and stopped it from going further. I just locked the drawers and then started closing them till it had enough counter weight to right itself. (the drawers will lock as you close them if the key is locked) No damage done except to my ego. It was 25 years ago and I have since gotten over it.
Lesson learned, dont open more than one drawer and if you must open more than one make sure the bottom one is open.
