With my wife, I can't tell the difference when she is on it or off it. Some of my friends swear that it made their wife put on weight, killed her sex drive, etc. but there are too many variable to know for sure. Marriage and raising kids kill sex drives and make people put on weight too.

Have you people not heard of birth control pills? Are there people in marriage really running around wearing jimmy caps in this day and age? Are you 16 years old or something?
Have you not heard of side effects of taking pills everyday?
Seriously...I don't blame a woman at all for not being ok with taking pills.
I got snipped almost exactly one year ago. I'm happy with that decision. Temporary discomfort (as discussed in the OP) and all.

This. The wife was already starting to see some of the long term effects of her BC. It affects the thyroid, affects her libido as well as slowing down the metabolism. Long term horonal issues were not something we wanted to deal with, and the thought of increased risk of heart attack and stroke were not something I wanted to risk.

Yeah, we didn't have any kids so I got to see those effects without that variable!

Well, that sucks.
I did 10 minutes of research and it looks like the pill reduces cancer risk and does not cause weight gain. The jury is out on sex drive. Some studies show it increases sex drive others show it reduces it. But a study group of one is all that really matters. If it seemed to kill my wife's sex drive, we'd have to do something else.
That's the thing with medicines. Everyone reats differently to it. That's why it took 6 tries to get me on the right depression meds.
In reply to Bobzilla:
As I am sure you know, a lot of depression meds cause reduced sex drive. I hope you two were able to meet in the middle somewhere.
We're working it out. She's been off BC now for about a year. I am just NOW starting to realize how bad her mood swings are when Aunt Flo is in town!

They call it the "Sunkist Club" - all the juice, none of the seeds.
Had it done a few years ago at the (now ex) wife's request because she thought birth control pills were causing her, er, problems. I didn't want any more kids and I was just about at my wit's end of dealing with her 'problems' so I readily agreed. And no her going off the pill made no difference.
I was snipped and cauterized (man that smelled funny!) but only painful for ~1 day. No swelling, dammit. The doc said to wait a month, then bring a sample for 'zero testing' before unprotected whoopee. He never said a word about these things reversing themselves.
