Negative. It has to do with this:

P.S: The picture is at the bottom of the article.

Gee, maybe it has something to do with the retards jumping onto the class actions lawsuits in order to make a quick buck.
I'd rather not see Sony go out of business because people are stupid and greedy. I happen to like their TVs and Stereos and Laptops and Other Assorted E36 M3.
for those that have a Wii and haven't installed homebrew on it... you OWE it to yourself... nothing quite like sitting with my son and rocking out to some classic mario from the NES... or tetris... also did the USB bootloader so we now have all the wii games on a HDD hooked to the Wii= kids don't touch discs anymore... also lets you play out of region games... wish xbox had something like that... but I do understand them not for piracy reasons...

Force me to sign up for this stupid online community thing (PSN) that I don't use or care about, then let some hackers take my credit card number, then make it crash every couple of days. Thanks, Sony, thanks. Definitely looking into Netflix for the Wii.How do they force you to sign up for it?
well, not literally force, but most games will not function without a valid PSN account, or download patches for the game.
But I never registered for PSN on mine, even before the series of hacks.
Which reminds me. Couldn't you buy a throwaway Visa at Walmart and use that to register with PSN?
In reply to madmallard:
You don't have to register a card with it anyway. I know a few people who just use the psn cards to get stuff instead of a credit card.
No card necessary for PSN unless you're going to use it to buy stuff.
You can even load your PSN account with paypal, i believe. Doesn't have to be a credit card. Buy a PSN card from whatever game store, use that. Gift card, paypal... don't have to use your personal card unless you choose to.
My card was actually stolen during the great psn hack of 2011. I had used it to buy Marvel Vs. Capcom 2. Idiots bought 170$ worth of credits for farmville. I'm like...no? I don't play Farmville? Bank was cool with it.
Grizz: They don't "force" you, it's just that nothing you download will work without one (i.e. Netflix account) and most games become incredibly lame if you don't sign in. For example, GT5 will make you "adjust your screen viewing area" every single time you start the game. Why that isn't something that can be stored locally on the machine's huge hard drive, I have no idea. In addition, it will give you a "reminder" every single time you return to the home screen that you should sign in.
So I guess they dont force you, it's just that to use the product you just dropped $300 on and then $50 for a game, you need to have one.
92Celica: It doesn't "crash" catastrophically, it's just that every so often on a whim it decides not to accept my username/password combination. And every single time I upgrade the Playstation software (which is also required for everything to run, and let's face it, a new patch is out every 30 seconds) I need to request a new password from Sony, because it refuses to accept my old one.
If I could recoup all my money back, I would sell the damned thing in a heartbeat.

Weird.... i don't think i have a single one of those problems.
I get maybe... 2 updates a month? I don't even remember what my password is, i have it set to auto-populate, i just click "sign-in."
But yes, to really use the PS3 and play games the way they should be, you should have a PSN account.
I think what we were trying to say, was that you don't need to have a credit card to have a PSN account.
I have yet to have ANY problems with my PS3, and it's one of the older ones, (I can play ALL PS2 and 1 games on it) and i've owned it for just over 2 years now. I guess I was lucky too to not have my information stolen because I did have my card info on there, I do buy DLC. I'm ok with updates, I see nothing wrong with them, it's not like their all the time.
My PS3 has been rock solid too. The only issue I have had was after the hacking update the DNS settings on the PS3 were messed up. I have also upgraded the hd in mine, it was so easy, now if I want to do that on my 360 it looks to ba a big pain.
Mine locks up occasionally when going from game disc to dvd, but that's my only complaint. Sony FTW.

It's as easy to swap out the hard drive on the 360 as it is the ps3. If you have one of the older white ones, the hard drive just pops off the side, and if you have a newer black one, it's behind an access panel you can remove.
I've got both systems, although nearly everyone I know plays online on 360, so I use it to game most of the time. I don't really consider PS3 a bad buy, considering the whole Bluray thing and I've got a couple console exclusives I really like playing on it. MGS4: Guns of the Patriots ftw!

What all do you have to do for that? Mine is as close to filled as I can get, and I'd like to get more space in it.

I didn't word that correctly. When I swapped out the drive on the PS3 it was very easy to transfer all of my data over to the new drive. All I had to do was perform a backup to an external USB drive, swap the drives and restore the backup. The added bonus is that the drive in the PS3 is a regular SATA laptop drive. It is my understanding that you have to get some kind of "transfer" kit to do the same thing on the 360. But you are correct, actually swapping drives is very easy.

You need a SATA laptop drive and some way to backup whatever is on the current drive. It does take some time for everything to complete but it is really not hard at all..

Ohh, I gotcha. It's still pretty easy, and most of the time you can find the cables for cheap online or find a friend to borrow one off of.
I'm pretty sure you install the new hard drive, and plug in the cable to the USB port and plug the other end into the old hard drive. I think it even prompts you to transfer the hard drive info, tell it yes, fix a sandwich, and it's done in 10 minutes or so.
