Hey all, recently got solidworks because I want to try my hand at aero modeling and 3d printing. Have any tips for modeling a car? Im trying to do a miata and so far Im just using the extrude/cut method because it seems to be the fastest.

Unless you really want to model it yourself, I'd try and download one that's already modeled and modify as needed.

Looks like these guys have a couple of NAs, a pair of NBs, a single NC, and even a couple of NDs already:

You need to build complex G2 surfaces... extrude & cut aren't going to work for you. Try taking some surfacing tutorials.

Or, like STM317 said, just download one that is already modeled and use it as a base point for modifications.

Or find somebody with a 3D scanner you can borrow.

Ill try downloading a model to start with. Ill also look into some surfacing tutorials so I can do it on my own as well.

Getting someone else's model is definitely the easy button, but if you want the experience surface modeling withe some to scale 4 view line art to 'draw over' is the ticket.

Define recently got Solidworks. Like the edu version?

Most standard seat installs have the modeling but not the simulation package. Back in the day we bought cosmosM to do it and it was ungodly expensive.

Got the edu version. One benefit of being a college student I guess.
