Or maybe it's just good to know people.
Is stopped by my old bosses shop today just to see how everything is going and also to see if he had anything that needed to get done (which he did, so that's good).
He asks me while I'm there if I can give him a ride over to somebodies house. I said ok sure. So we're on the way over and he elaborates that this guy is giving him a Cherokee. He went to replace the heater core and realized he had got himself deeper than he wanted to be and decided he really didn't need it, so who else to give it to, than my old boss.
So we get there and it's a white '99 Sport 4-door. It's in really good shape. 4.0L/Auto. Power Everything. Has 132k on the odo and the brakes a virtually new. All it needs is the heater core and tires.
He just gives it to my old boss. GIVES IT TO HIM. I like XJs and this one made me a little jealous. Now I know the heater core is a huge pain in the ass, but come on, this was to good to be true if I hadn't seen the exchange myself.
Some guys have all the luck.
how is a heater core in a late model anything a "pain in the ass"? the whole dash usually comes out with a few bolts and a couple of connectors..
on that note, you should remind your old boss that it's too much of a pain in the ass to do on a 15 year old truck so he should just give it to you..
Yeah I kept trying to get him to just give it to me. I don't think my tactics worked.

I'll ship the next Super Doody Ford I get in down to you.

There's a special place in a special level of hell for whoever designed the heater cores in Ford trucks.
I swapped out the core in my old 86 F250 diesel in about 40 minutes. They must have changed the design.
Ford should have left their heaters laid out the way they were in the late 70's: i did the heater core in my 78 LTD2 in about 5 minutes... it was right under a tin cover held down by 2 screws.. took me longer to get the hoses off the core than it took me to get it out.

I don't even feel the need to give up my man/car guy card … just because I let an actual Ford mechanic do the heater core in my F150 … the dash and all the brittle plastic connectors …etc … outside 30° temps, never done it before, need the truck sooner, rather than later …
yep … let the "pro" do it

You have no idea.....
I've pulled many dashboards out of many cars. I think the Cherokee is the worst I've done.
On that note, I'd do one in a heartbeat if it meant I'd get a nice, low-mileage Cherokee outta the deal (yup, 132K is low on a 4.0L Jeep).
