His comrades fought beside him Van Owen and the rest
But of all the Thompson Gunners Roland was the best
So the CIA decided They wanted Roland dead
That son-of-a-bitch Van Owen Blew off Roland's Head
"Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner" by Warren Zevon
Some people say I'm obnoxious and lazy
That I'm uneducated and my opinion means nothin'
But I know I'm a real good dancer
John Cougar Mellencamp
It was a pretty big year for predators
The marketplace was on a roll
And the land of opportunity
Spawned a whole new breed of men without souls
This year, notoriety got all confused with fame
And the devil is downhearted
Because there's nothing left for him to claim

A lesser know song by Metric always stuck with me, as a reminder that we only have so much time in this life. Despite all the things that can bring us down or hold us back...
"It's now or never....now."

These Bob Seger lyrics meant a lot to me when I was a working stiff:
"Deadlines and commitments
What to leave in, what to leave out"
(Although I couldn't leave anything out).

Some may be from showing up
Others are from growing up
Sometimes I was so messed up and didn’t have a clue
I ain’t winning no one over
I wear it just for you
I’ve got your name written here
In a rose tattoo

Now that I've been retired for 10+ years, these lyrics from Pink Floyd's "High Hopes" have meaning to me.
"Encumbered forever by desire and ambition
There's a hunger still unsatisfied
Our weary eyes still stray to the horizon
Though down this road we've been so many times"
(It's an excellent song, especially the newer David Gilmour version High Hopes).
Johnny Cash singing Neil Diamond's Solitary Man played simultaneously at the same time with The Moody Blues's Melancholy Man on Youtube.
Don't know that I will
But until I can find me
The girl who'll stay
And won't play games behind me
I'll be what I am
A solitary man, solitary man
I'm a melancholy man
That's what I am
All the world surrounds me and my feet are on the ground
I'm a very lonely man
Doing what I can
All the world astounds me and I think I understand
That we're going to keep growing
Wait and see
Are you coming with me?
Come let me take you on a party ride
And I'll teach you, teach you, teach you
I'll teach you the electric slide
Some say it's mystic
It's electric boogie woogie, woogie
You can't resist it
It's electric boogie woogie, woogie
You can't do without it
It's electric boogie woogie, woogie
They don't sound like anything special, until you learn what the song was actually about
