Yep, clothes that protect you from the sun give you heat stroke because they're hot as hell. I have a half dozen long sleece SPF30 shirts that are almost like wearing no shirt (I guess,I've never not worn a shirt unless in bed) because they breathe very very well. Well worth the $19 the wife spent on them at Sam's club
Years ago we were racing at Nationals in Topeka, KS and since we were standing out in the sun for hours at a time, we both slathered on the SFP50 sunscreen. Between runs we sat in our Boxster and then we noticed that the sunscreen actually melted the door pocket lid on both sides of the car. It was then that I wondered what affect the sunscreen was having on my body because obviously my skin was absorbing it. From that day until now, I will not use sunscreen and wear long sleeves, pants and big hat when I go autocrossing. I have not had a sunburn in 16 years of doing this and no matter how hot it gets, I feel comfortable being all covered up. I have been just finding any light cotton shirts and pants are great but hospital scrubs are the best source. The lighter the color, the cooler you will be but all of them will prevent the sun from getting to your skin. Wrangler makes painter pants that are light, durable and come in white so they are cool. Here is a picture of me at this years Nationals where the theme was western.

Are spf shirts made of polyester? I wonder if I can wear it without getting a bunch of rashes during an autocross (polyester makes me itch and rash up)
Anyone know what the Shelf Life is for SPF lotion is ?
I never see a sell by date on the bottle !

From personal experience, one year or so... three years for sure will get you a sunburn.
But I can't speak to what type of sunscreens. I'd imagine a mineral based sunscreen doesn't really go bad?

Usually polyester, nylon, lycra, or some combo.
Im still using mostly retired dress shirts, specifically Egyptian cotton or Linen. Linen is the bees knees for keeping cool, but I suspect I'm still getting pretty significant uv rays... but I'm not getting burned.
I also like the polyester long sleeve t's, when I'm fishing I'll take them off, dunk them in the water, ring them out, and put them back on. Really nice and refreshing way to keep cool.
