I am at least a year late on this because I am not paying to stream on top of paying to watch TV, but I digress. That is a different thread.
Last night I am watching whatever episode it was and the bad guy trying to escape takes a hostage and holds whatever weapon he has on the hostage. Pike and the rest are reacting, oh no he has a hostage.
I am thinking stun them both and apologize to the hostage later. But that would have made the show really short.
Stun them both? That's like telling characters in some romantic comedy that they should try talking to each other. It would likely improve them both, greatly. Indiana Jones shooting a guy with a sword is iconic. I doubt many would remember the originally scripted sword vs. whip scene.
In any case, SNW is easily the best of the new Paramount Star Trek shows, though I'm also quite fond of Lower Decks.

I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with Mariner and Boimler on SNW this season.
I think I remember the episode you're talking about, the storyline was a retelling of another short sci-fi (or arguably fantasy) story that didn't have Star Trek-level technologies, so the hostage situation had to be horribly fumbled in a world with phasers to keep the plot rolling along, or a character could've spilled the beans and ruined all of it...pretty good episode overall in spite of that.
You could stun them both, or given the level or technology in the show, maybe just use the transporter to send the prisoner back to their cell?
I liked Hemmer a bunch so I'm not 100 percent excited about the new season but overall the show is great.

He was a great character.
I was bummed when they killed off Hemmer.
