They really are not to blame. The shiny happy person who thought it was a good idea to park cars inside your house is.
Seriously. I weld in the garage. How long before it's my turn? Who will I blame? Miller?

Yes. Blame Miller

The article says the car was parked in the garage...not the house.
Wow.....Just goes to show you.....Karma's a bitch!
(OMG....hahaha...lame, but I can't believe I got that in first!)

Waka waka!!!
(didn't read article, but) So conventional wisdom dictates that you shouldn't garage a plug-in car??? That sucks.
I recharge a drill and a vacuum in my garage...

From The Fine Article:
"According to Baker, the driver arrived home in the Fisker, pulled into the garage, and less than three minutes later the car was in flames. It reportedly was not plugged in at the time of the fire and the Karma's battery remains intact."
It was in his garage and not charging. Fisker then goes on some tangent about fireworks and possible insurance fraud. That's some weapons grade stupid right there, whoever issued that statement needs to be dismissed from Fisker's employ. Even if it was insurance fraud, they need to prove it before making the claim publicly.

Attached garage. Whenever I am plasma cutting with my children sleeping upstairs I wonder who the E36 M3forbrains was that thought it was a good idea to park cars in the same building you sleep in.
But... still... was kinda kidding.

First the Consumer Reports Karma dies on their test track, then their reaction to a claim one of their cars caught fire is "we have not ruled out possible fraud or malicious intent." If they keep this up, they're in for a raft of "bad karma" jokes.
Baker estimated damages at roughly $100,000, not including the other two vehicles in the garage, a Mercedes-Benz SUV and an Acura NSX.
It destroyed an NSX in the process of burning itself to the ground.
In reply to jonnyd330:
Yeah. I don't care about the Fisker, the SUV, or the McMansion, but the loss of an NSX brings a tear to the eye.

I agree.
I am bummed that Fisker isn't working out so well. It's a beautiful car and a great concept--I wish it would work. I'm pulling for them.

That is the worst part!
5/10 - UPDATE:
Autoweek said: NHTSA is aware of the incident and in contact with local authorities. The agency will continue to monitor the situation and take appropriate action as warranted.
So, Fisker tries to deny claims after local public investigators made a ruling, and now big brother is involved = Fisker is Berked
Well, they've been doing the berking for a while now, so it's their turn.

Fisker Karma reportedly causes house fire in Texas but further investigation is ongoing to know the true cause. There are other things to be considered in the area like a large number of fireworks were discovered in the garage along with “an electrical panel". Chief investigator Robert Baker likened the fire to those caused by golf carts. Golf carts are electric vehicles and have very similar powertrains to electric and plug-in hybrid cars. Even though investigation is still ongoing, an incident like this could serve as another nail in Fisker’s coffin.

hmmm.. an electric car that needs to be charged.. why wouldn't you have an electrical panal in the garage?
Update: Fisker has apologized, fired their PR team and has promised to do their own investigation into the incident.
Just kidding! They've taken another opportunity to insult others and deny any possible responsibility.

So, if one of the lipos for my RC car (oh god, it's a drift RC car... I must be a hooligan) explodes in my ms3, burns the car down, and takes my apartment with it... who do I sue? Turnigy, the makers of the battery? The company that made the charger? Castle for not properly wiring my speed control allowing it to explode? Tamiya for designing a faulty chassis? There's so many possibilities!
RC Lipo batteries usually come with a ton of warnings so you'll have a hard time suing. On the other hand, I don't think the Fisker Karma comes with a warning to store it in a bucket of sand when it's not in use or charging.
(BTW it seems that something other than the battery started the fire)
In reply to mndsm:
Turnigy would just say "can't be our fault, we stole the design from someone else!"
