That's awesome, Per. I think I would seriously do that... except they would have to be "15". I might just put "13" anyway.

Here in Daytona Beach it's not uncommon to see "24" on a car that is clearly on 18s... albeit chrome and still huge for the car.

At least the 'salami slicers' ('spinnaz') seem to be waning in popularity. I swear I thought some of the crap I do looks futile but man those things took the top prize.

Has anyone ever actually weighed a 20" or bigger wheel? I'm just curious how heavy these things must be. Especially the guys in SUV's who have monstrous tires on them besides.

We get a bunch of those cars at the upholstery shop next door to us. We call them Matchbox cars. I can't imagine taking a $300.00 Caprice adding $10000.00 worth of wheels and tires, another $5000.00 in metal flake or pearl paint and then another $5000.00 on new upholstery. All that work and you still have a $300.00 car. We see them fairly regularly though.

Not to mention how hard it's getting to find decent rubber on something less than 15". I just bought a set of 14" NOS "Snowflakes" for my A2 Golf, and ended up with mismatches (Toyo/Falken) just to avoid the Pep Boys Long Life all-seasons. I'd intended to put the Toyos up front and the Falkens on the rear, but when I arrived, they'd mounted both Toyos (directional tread) on the right, "..so someone looking from the side won't know you're mismatched."

I'm so tired of this insipid `tires as jewelry' fad. Where's the "boiling mad" icon?

There are a few that have like 20 inch logos for candy and such down the side its horrible.

One we got in honestly have "statutory grape" and was painted flake purple. I wish I had pictures.

I (unfortunately) learned some of these term while (unfortunately) watching some show (probably on Speed). There are apparently Donks, Bubbles and (I think) Slabs. The "true" versions of each have very specific year and model definitions. The Bubbles are the bloated looking Capris. The Slabs are those older Oldsmabuick Delta 88 kinda cars, and the Donks are some specific boats of 70's vintage I believe. I really wasn't paying that much attention, but I did find it interesting that there are some ridged guidelines that some follow.

I've seen the ones around Richmond with the candy and cola logos on the side. When did "Skittles" become the cool thing to put on your car. I just thought it was some bizarre car cruiser club.

BTW, a while back someone posted a link to a video of someone drag racing a 'box' G body, at the launch the C clip tip of one of the axles broke and the huge wheel/tire/axleshaft combo took off down the dragstrip with a bunch of guys chasing it. The funniest part was the announcer, he was cracking up and laughing so hard he almost couldn't talk.

Maybe it's the American version of 'itasha,' where the Japanese puts stickers of their favorite anime characters all over their cars. Oh, what will those wacky Japanese think of next?

I very rarely see boxes, bubbles, or donks where I live- must be a Southern thing. Up here, I'm treated to dubbed and blinged Chrysler LX-chassis cars and SUVs like Navvies and 'Slades, y0. But far more common are clapped-out minivans and Hondas with two or three mismatched spinner wheel covers and a windshield banner. Rolling eyesores, all of them.

ROFL! Small victories rock. You should keep `em, and run around the neighborhood once or twice after the car's finished, just so you can see how the thing handled back when the car was new. I have to admit...even the Pep Boys stuff should be the equal of a Phoenix Staflex or Michelin XAS.
