Typically, stoner metal isn't my jam, but I've been really digging Telekinetic Yeti.
I remember this thread... wow!
Still listening to Stoner-flavored music these days. That will never change.
Some current favorites:
Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats:
I can't sing their praises enough. This album (Mind Control)... holy hell it's great.
Sumerlands:
More on the Traditional Metal side, but the riffage is unparalleled and the general vibe fits here. The guitar work reminds me a lot of Jake E. Lee's work on Ozzy's albums Bark at the Moon and The Ultimate Sin. So good.
Eternal Champion:
It's Conan the Barbarian Metal. If you like The Sword's old stuff, you'll love this.
Fireball Ministry:
Heavy Rock with a Stoner vibe. Love these guys. So does Dave Grohl! He mentioned them in an interview, which is how I discovered them.
Spirit Adrift:
More Traditional than Stoner these days, but still, they rule.
Magic Circle:
I saw these guys at a burrito restaurant with Elder (who is also excellent) almost 10 years ago now. They've both gone places! Great early Sabbath vibes with a little Dio/Rainbow dabbled in there.
FWIW, I have God Is An Astronaut on repeat in the office today. It’s good work music. ("All Is Violent, All Is Bright," by the way, is highly recommended.)
In reply to David S. Wallens :
Ya know, I've always heard of these guys, and never checked them out until now. Good stuff! Space/Post Rock is great stuff sometimes.
They actually remind me a lot of one of my favorite bands: Astronoid. I'm sure these guys are a huge influence on Astronoid, but they take this sound somewhere different. Imagine God Is An Astronaut with Black Metal influences, blast beats, and melodic Coheed & Cambria style vocals. I know, weird, but I love them.
In reply to David S. Wallens :
I suggest any of the bands listed in the second half of my post above, plus these others:
Carbon Based Lifeforms
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
We Lost The Sea
If These Trees Could Talk
Oh Hiroshima
ISON
This Will Destroy You
Bonus artist:
Emancipator
An old friend I used to play shows with 30 years ago is currently in a band that could be classified as "stoner metal":
My favorite song of theirs is Hammers to the Sky
Not sure if these have been mentioned but there was a solid band out of Canada called Sheavy. Dead ringer for Black Sabbath singer and sound wise. Another band from across the pond I recall listening to was Orange Goblin.
In reply to Tony Sestito :
Uncle Acid is in current rotation here as well, will check out the others
For those of you who have a spotify subscription, I found this playlist a few years back and it's fantastic. I became a huge fan of Graveyard after hearing Hisingen Blues- https://open.spotify.com/playlist/6sBmPTY1j3KQMmsHhetiUs?si=6aea76975f354222
