i was letting the dog out for the night, got to the bottom of the stairs at the deck, and a skunk crawls out from the bushes about 20 feet away. Dog runs at it, I yank back on the leash and she slips her collar. I run up the deck, she comes running after foaming and rubbing her eyes. Direct hit in the face. Great. I lock her out on the deck, get the de-skunk kit and look up instructions, rinse out her eyes, and start scrubbing her down. She didn't even get into the house and inside reeks! We've got all the windows open and fans going.
Last time this happened, I had to teach a class at GM and was smelling skunk all day. Wasn't sure if I smelled like it or it was just stuck in my nose.
So the dog is de-skunked. Is there anything we can do about the house now?
Berkleying dog!
Vinegar? 1:10 solution in a spray bottle. Lots of candles
Time to switch to a harness instead of a collar?
almost hit a skunk crossing the road last night, waited for the thump from the LR wheel but nuthin', musta scared it enuf to put the poo juices into the air tho
and people wonder why I don't have pets..
Next time how about leaving the pup outdoors until the stink dissipates?

She was clean when we brought her inside and didn't smell (other than minor odors). The skunk smell just permeated the house though just from me opening and closing the door to keep the dog out.
Get a large outdoor pet that eats skunks. Maybe an alligator?
I like the smell of skunk. Now of course I wouldn't want to be sprayed by one, or have my pet sprayed, but I don't find the smell offensive.
Just weird I guess

That would be annoying. Usually they are pretty obvious before the door gets all of the way open. Good luck.
Shoot the skunk.
Remove food and hiding places for future skunks.
Adopt Great Horned Owl for the back deck.

Eagle/cat pic reminds me of my cat. Her ambition exceeds her stalking skill.
