It's a proven fact that this list is one of the largest & best suppositories of weird, wonderful and wacky knowledge so let me post this question.....
Once upon a time I remember reading that if you develop ridges in your fingernails it's a sign of ???????
I've suddenly developed ridges lengthwise from cuticle to end on one of my thumbnails. Is that a sign of a life threatening disease, a deficiency of some sort or the first signs of my transformation into some kind of super hero?
BTW I tagged this thread as Messerschmitt just to make it easier to locate with the search engine when one night when in your drug and alcohol induced stupor you suddenly remember the answer to my question.

Ummm, PLEASE tell me you meant "repository" and not "suppository"...

I'm not sure if I should be updating my will and getting my affairs in order, trying to get on Obamacare or eating more bananas. I'm in that paralysis by analysis stage. I'd really like to get on with my life however short it might be.

Now you've go me nervouser
"changes in the appearance of fingernails can be the first sign of an undiagnosed medical problem"
"horizontal nail ridges may indicate the presence of an underlying illness or medical condition"
"horizontal nail ridges may indicate the presence of an underlying illness or medical condition"
The reference article draws a distinction between "horizontal" and "vertical" ridges. Vertical ridges from base of nail to tip are apparently fairly common.
Here's a solution: Borrow the wifey's emery board and buff those unsightly ridges away. While you're at it, you can put a on a nice coat of gloss, or if you're feeling particularly daring, maybe a bit of color!
Enjoy!

Can I also wear one of her dresses while I'm doing this? I'm going to have to rethink my post on the "How do you deal with winter" thread.
The only real issue I see with your suggestion is that then I'd have to worry about my nails when I'm working in the garage and then there's always the issue of having to change colors so that they won't clash with my outfit or shoes.

Seriously, what you do in your own time is your business. Especially when it comes to suppositories. More so when those are wierd.
Should we start calling your Richard Gere?
Maybe he's talking about the Turd Twister.

Hey, carguy, this is a direct quote from that article:
"These ridges tend to become more prominent with age and are generally don't indicate poor health or a serious medical condition."
You may be over-reacting, but it's definitely worth monitoring your health.

So now you're insulting me and calling me old!?! (Dang it, where's that sarcasm font when you need it?)
Actually I was just trying to do some research to see if there were people out there who might know off the tops of their heads what it meant. I knew it meant something, but I just couldn't remember what.
That article and a couple of others I found seemed to say the type I've got probably mean nothing except possibly some cold weather injury from working on the car in winter by banging or crushing my thumb.
I knew this thread would be full of win from the beginning... at least before the suppositories begin to work

A few GOOD years I might add with quite a few GOOD years left in me!
It means you've mashed your finger too many times. My right index finger and thumb nails are flat, I'm convinced it is from pressing on watch case backs with my hands.

That's more or less what I've decided. For the last 2 winters I've ended up hitting or hurting some of my fingers. I haven't thought much of it cause everything hurts soo much more in the cold, but I'm guessing that one of the hits must have been at my nail bed.

This is a great place for Xmas ideas too.
My Eyes !!
My Eyes !!
Christmas is right around the corner...
I just sent that link to my whole family (using tiny url of course). I'm hoping that someone will get it for me. I told them this appealed to my creative side and that it would make a good stocking stuffer.
Ridges can be buffed out by a manacurist right?
What causes your nail to delaminate from the bed? you know how the end of your nail is white? Mine is white half way to the cuticle, grease and crap gets under there and it's harder to get out than a normal nail. I talked to the Doc at my last tune up and he suggested blood work, test you liver to see if you'll live, then pump my bdy full of incecticides.
I can live with goofy nails....
Pass.

Not only did he call you old, I think he called you a hypochondriac as well!

I'M NOT! I was only suggesting dressing up in my wife's clothes while she buffed the ridges out of my nails. It's not a lifestyle choice.
I thought is was an indication of Cyanide poisoning. Someone in the house mad at you?
I'm married, what do you think?
