I have a set of Goodyear Duratrac Wranglers and they are really loud after 40mph. I can almost not stand driving them on the freeway. I was wondering if tire pressure or other factors increase or decrease tire noise?  I run them at 35psi but I was thinking of trying almost 45?

They look awesome but I just can't stand them.

These guys?

Nope, not a chance. They'll always be noisy and vibrate. GM puts those on the new Trail Boss trucks and it's shocking how many customers buy a Trail Boss and then pitch a fit about the tires making noise.

Nope, with that off road tread pattern, they're going to be loud.

Just drive them on dirt, what they are designed for, and you won't have that issue....

I also have an issue with my autocross tires wearing out on my morning commute.  cheeky

It amazes me how many SUV drivers leave off-road tires on vehicles that spend 99% of their time on the street.  I understand the aesthetics, but It absolutely ruins the ride comfort.

OP - how feasible might it be for you to find a second set of wheels/tires for street use?

Do you have MT or AT tires?

All my SUV/Truck tires are AT.

MT are much louder.

I mean truck/suv tires are louder than Pirelli Cinturato on our LS600hL, but it isn't a fair comparison, or the Michelin Primacy on the TSX wagon, both of those are extremely quiet.

I have the GoodYear Wranglers - which come OEM on new Tacoma. My tacoma is fine on the highway. I run 38PSI.

My other Toyota, comes factory BFG k0. They are a little louder, but nothing crazy. Just finished a 2500 mile trip in March up to Wyoming and Montana. 80mph on highway always.  I run 40psi on these.

Are your tires super worn down? I know my Azenis, when worn - are SO loud.

What truck and what size? I ran a set of these on my 2500. I loved them, but never noticed a problem with noise (they were also pizza cutter tall and skinny, because I wanted to retain some MPG, but also not get stuck when working).

Always drive with the correct pressure.  If you inflate them too far, you're killing the tire and possibly causing dangerous driving dynamics.

... and it won't help the noise.

Do you really need a tread that aggressive on your SUV?  Depending on the SUV, those tires are WAY more trail-capable than the truck they're under.

I have Continental TerrainContact on my truck.  They are actually quieter than the worn HT tires that were on it.  Super quiet.  I can't even hear them over the wind noise.  I wouldn't try to crawl Moab with them, but they are as good as any other A/T.  I do light off-roading with them and they never let me down in mud.

They were targeted as a lighter-duty A/T for soccer moms and suburbans that sometimes go off road, and they nailed the noise department while maintaining excellent A/T properties.  If you really need that aggressive a tread, you're stuck with tires that range from noisy to deafening.  You'll have to pick which quality is more important to you.

Thanks guys, I know I'm going to catch some Sh*t for what car I am using them on but I actually camp and and offroad to bike trails often.

They are 265/65 r18 M

I picked up another set of wheels and tires off CL for $250 that someone took off their Q7. Almost new Toyo Q/T tires 265/50r19 they are so quiet.

I painted them black and slapped some Stuttgart badges on them.

Love the way the 18" feel and look but I think I will pull the tires off and try and find a quiet 265/65.

On road - they look so small!

$250 -  Q7 wheels

I have your solution: Make the exhaust louder!

Haha yes, It has a Remus exhaust maybe I can turn up the stereo too? Just go totally def.

Yeah, I think the tribe has spoken and there is no practical reason to run the Wranglers. I bet I can find a really nice riding and quiet A/T tire to put on the 18s.

You won't catch any sh*t from me.  Your car.  I put a 5.0L SBF in an Olds 442 once.  I use my truck as an off-road camper as well and I have never owned anything that I didn't customize in some way.

I would give two definite nods to Continental Terrain Contact or the Toyo Open Country A/T.  Continental TC is supremely quiet, like I said, they are quieter than the Goodyear HT tires the previous owner had on it.  Toyo OC will give you a little bit of noise, but probably be a tad bit more capable in serious off road situations.

The Yokohama Geolandar tires on the CX-9 are one of the few things I'd change about the vehicle, and surprisingly, they're not noisy.  They just seem to lack traction.  I find them spinning frequently on pulling out, and they don't even put up a howling protest, they just make a sort of scraping noise.  Weak!

I have absolutely zero interest in putting on anything remotely all-terrain when the time comes to replace them.  I'll be looking for a high performance all season touring tire, although I suspect my options will be limited if I stick with the stock size and load range.

I have geolanders on my Disco, they work great for the mixed use I put that truck through.

I buy Blizzacks because, well this is Minnesota it starts snowing as early as October  and can snow well into May.  Snow sometimes is measured in feet and it's not that unusual to have an ice storm immediately  followed by a snow storm.
plus 45 below zero happens at least once a year. Nearly every year. Noise? Yeh some as they get older. But it's not the sound of a stuck car spinning its tires trying to burn its way to traction, we so commonly hear.
But they come off as soon as temps get much over 45

I switch rims to Summer highway tread which are nice and quiet. Gets me slightly better fuel mileage and last 70,000 miles plus

My tire place swaps the wheels and tires free every spring and fall as long as there is at least 4/32 of tread left  not only that but puts them in white plastic bags  for storage.
They carefully torque each lug but to spec and check the TPS to ensure  they are working properly

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate them--they're impressively smooth and quiet-- but it does seem like the dry traction could be better.  They're probably good at a lot of stuff I'll never ask them to do.
