Marijuana group wants NASCAR fans to choose pot over alcohol

http://www.sportingnews.com/nascar/story/2013-07-26/marijuana-ad-billboard-indy-brickyard-400-fans-alcohol?icid=maing-grid7%7Cmain5%7Cdl11%7Csec1_lnk3%26pLid%3D350202

The pro-marijuana advocacy group has a video billboard promoting marijuana as an alcohol alternative. That ad — which boasts “Marijuana: Less harmful than alcohol and time to treat it that way" — is being shown outside the grounds of Indianapolis Motor Speedway the next three days as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series takes to the track for Sunday’s Brickyard 400.

I can get behind this. A functioning alcoholic is still a functioning alcoholic, stoners just be stoners.

Health-wise, I can't argue that weed is probably "better" for you, but that's a relativity thing.

It's Nascar, that's what you do anyway.

The cigarette money and alcohol money that fueled Nascar has dried up. Maybe Pot can bring the next influx of cash.

Kind of a summary of pot's health risks: http://www.webmd.com/smoking-cessation/news/20121207/recreational-marijuana-health-effects The amount of tar in pot smoke is pretty well documented and it's higher than tobacco.

If someone wants to smoke pot, that's fine. I don't care. Just don't throw out some bogus health benefit bullE36 M3 to try to make it look good. That's way too much like Al Gore's global warming push that lines his pockets.

Killing your lungs by breathing in a bunch of smoke doesn't seem much healthier than alcohol.

Lungs verses liver, your choice I guess. Also the greater likely hood of physical injuries from inebriation due to alcohol.

Both are bad for you if consumed.

Personally, I think the drug war that includes pot is ridiculous. It's a waste of government money which we could use for other things. It's also a justification to oppress the civilian population even further. Consider no knock warrants, flimsy justification for property/person searches, and the uneven way in which punishment is carried out.

Less government in your life is a good thing right? Legalize pot at least.

I've never understood how it's acceptable to go out and potentially screw up your life and the lives of others with alcohol, but doing the same with pot is somehow different?

I said probably. Never done it, don't associate with people that do. I don't get on people's case that do it though as that is their business. I'd never argue smoking ANYTHING is healthy. Alcohol on the other hand, may in fact be healthy for you from studies I've read (obviously not drop dead drunk).

Screwing up your life or someone else's for the sake of a buzz is never a good thing and is not legal; that's why it's possible to get a felony DUI while drunk even though booze is legal.

I do have to agree that the lesson of Prohibition seems to have been forgotten in the case of pot and if someone's gonna do drugs it's probably the least harmful of a bunch of not real great alternatives, certainly better than coke or heroin.

Put me in the 'don't use, but think they should legalize' camp.

I was an RA in college. If people wanted to smoke tobacco, they went out into the quad instead of stinking up their rooms and creating a potential fire hazard. Since pot is illegal, when people would invariably smoke it, they would hot box their rooms with a towel wedged into the crack under the door, then light up a bunch of incense and maybe aromatic candles to cover up the smell before they climbed out their window. The rules against it didn't stop people from smoking. They just made a giant fire hazard when they did.

Legalize Pot? Heh, right. That worked out so well for booze, didn't it?

Making booze illegal sure didn't seem to work very well.

I'm pretty sure weed is on NASCAR's list of banned substances, so I don't see them taking money from these guys just yet.

THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!!

Why does everyone equate pot use to smoking cigarettes???

I know people who have never smoked anything in their lives but still enjoy their weed!! They make some damn good brownies, cookies, chocolates and popcorn!!! It's a better buzz and far cheaper than smoking it. If you cook with it it properly you are getting the best value for your dollar.

put me in the "don't use, never tried, but if it becomes legal i'm trying a brownie" camp.

i have several people close to me who partake of the weed. they are all responsible adults and enjoy it as they would a few cocktails, without drinking afterward or going out buzzed in public. most of them are also in very professional careers. one uses it to ease the pain of chemo because of his cancer. he is an IT specialist and makes 6 figures, nowhere near your stereotypical pothead.

assuming everyone who partakes of weed is a slow lazy tie dye wearing hippie is like assuming everyone who partakes of alcohol is otis from the andy griffith show.
