Just remember: For every "yes," there's a person who delights in watching you suffer through your build thread.

I need to know more. Who built it? Is it on a bug chassis and if so still rear engine? Most 550s were built with custom tube chassis and mid engine. What is in it now for and engine?

My old boss had a 356 replica on a bug chassis with a 150 hp motor. It was an absolute blast to drive.

Sorry I just went back and looked at the link. I want to say yes but the rear engine layout is holding me back. If it was a beck spyder it would be worth at least twice this amount. I don't know if you could get your money back from a perry or not.

Hold out for something more like this, 3 liters of twin plugged, flat six goodness right behind your head. No way she sells it though.

A 2.7 liter type IV is liable to be a bit of a grenade. Mid engine is the way to go.

In reply to Toebra:

It appears to have a type 1 engine in it now, ad claims "1.7" so I'd assume it's the usual 1776.

Don't buy that. People who don't know you and whose opinion you don't value might think less of you.

(This reasoning never seems to get and traction around here. )

I have an opinion: Nope. I remember these kits (I think). If I'm not mistaken, they bolted on a stock Vdub pan, or for more $, a mid engine proprietary frame. They were lower end kit cars when new. A $500 Bradley GT would put you in the same place performance-wise (if, of course, you added sweet 195/50/15's). I think you could find a well built speedster replica for the same $$$.

Unwanted opinion part 2. How the heck does that rear swinging clamshell help service a rear engine. Wait, this one is not mid, is it? One way or the other, that's no Beck

Honestly the car in question looks like a whole lot of fun, but if I'm wading into 550 replicas I'd just dive right in and get a Beck even though they are 2-3x more $$. I actually looked at one about a month ago and really liked it, but it had a recent poor paint job that killed it for me. Even with the not so great paint it sold very quick.
